I was a little stressed out with all the paperwork that has to be done in regards to a divorce and had to hire Ms. McKeag to help me complete it and represent me. She helped me through the process and I don't think I could have done it without her. Thanks Kim!!

Ms. McKeag exceeded my expectations and really took the time to explain the process and steps that happen in the divorce process. She really knew the ins and outs and kept me prepared of the next steps that were coming. She was very kind and great and understood what I was going through and really was helpful in the whole process. I would highly recommend. A+ service all the way.

I was unexpectedly served with an order preventing my son and I from moving across the country two days before our planned relocation. I was losing my mind and ended up through blind luck, with Mrs. McKeag as my attorney. From day one she calmed me down, always listened to me rant and rave, and was realistic with me as far as the possible outcomes. She never looked for a way to nickel and dime me and charge me for every possible thing she could have, and above all she made me feel like my son and I were her utmost priority, as opposed to being one of many cases on her plate. She was realistic in what we should and should not do as far as filing motions. There were several times we could have taken a course of action that would have cost me thousands, yet had a very low chance of succeeding. We saw this when the opposing council took this route. When our court dates happened she was always prepared, always solid, and never once was caught unawares. She always took the high road, and always provided solid advice. I honestly believe that if I had not her as my lawyer things could have turned out much differently no matter how in the right I was. She is the sole reason I won my move away case and was allowed to move across the country. She was able to read the judge and adjust her approach to the case on his rulings, and decisions in cases prior to ours being called. I would say this is one of her strongest qualities as opposed to a lawyer who just gets up and reads from a legal pad, or tries to stretch and twist circumstances to fit an altered version. I consider Mrs. McKeag a friend and will never be able to express my gratitude and what a phenomenal lawyer she is adequately enough through words. Her character is beyond reproach, and if I ever find myself in a position that I am in need of council, she will be my first call.

Kimberly McKeag was very helpful in reviewing numbers, policy, audits and our case with child support services. Based on our discussions with Ms. McKeag, we were able to devise and pursue and very effective (and successful!) strategy. I highly recommend Kimberly McKeag for her professionalism, sincerity, compassion and knowledge. She went beyond the obvious to dig out information for us and was encouraging and supportive -- a pleasant change from our experience with DCSS.

Kimberly did a outstanding JOB on my case (Child Custody). When my Son was unrightfully taken from me and with held from me, she did everything in her power to make sure I got my rights and I felt comfortable with what was going on. In that hard time in my life, Kim definitely made it easier on me. She has a can do spirit and her knowledge of the law was precise!!! Thank you Kim!!! HIGHLEY RECOMMEND!!!

My wife of 25 years filed a restraining order against me. I am in my seventies, a retired surgeon, and have never had this kind of legal issue. Ms. Keegan did not start by evaluating my ability to pay but instead listened, clearly comprehended my situation, and agreed to take my case. She is a Jurist with the added outstanding qualities of organization, problem-solving, laser focus, attention, and retention of details, and she responds and adapts to changing circumstances with composure. Her patience elevates her to the highest levels of professionalism, coupled with her analysis, writing, and persuasion skills, will give you great comfort that you are represented by the best.

I was referred to Anna by a friend. I needed some legal forms written up and gone over with me. I was also in somewhat of a hurry. Anna was very thorough in explaining everything to me and she was extremely hardworking. She had the forms ready for me in half the time the other attorneys said it would take. She was also very knowledgable in the matter at hand which made me feel safe and protected. I am very thankful for Anna and if you need legal help she is the best.

I needed a few things taken care of legally and I really didn't know where to start. Anna was so knowledgable about exactly what I needed to do and how she could help me. I was calling her with questions all the time and she was always so helpful and kept telling me to call her if I had any other questions! I recommend Anna to all my friends and family anytime someone needs legal advice as she is the best attorney I have come across.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of San Diego, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
