Mr. Ripley represented me and took the time and extra effort to understand my case and gather information. He met with me several times to ensure he had all the facts. He took the time to collaborate and follow through with everything he said he would do. When he received documents the afternoon before we were to appear in court he spent several hours reviewing this information. This went into the late evening. He was dedicated and committed to ensuring that all of my questions were answered and all of the information was accurate. He took the time to walk me through every step of the process and made himself available for questions. I am very grateful for his services and professionalism.

I contacted the office of Michael Ripley based on all the peer reviews I had read. Now I know firsthand, where the five stars come from. Above and beyond is the simple two words to convey the level of work this office, Nelia Castro, Jennifer Kiss and Becky, have done to settle my 2nd lien and modify my first with Wells Fargo, jumbo loan. I had initally hired the staff to help me modify my first but out of the blue the 2nd lien, returned after over 5 years of no contact. Their last information saying they had written off the loan. However, 2nd liens can come back and will, once you have some equity. I would strongly encourage anyone, not to wait, because the 2nd started foreclosure as soon as the equity was enough that they would get something out of us. Nelia can be direct when she needs to be but she, Jennifer and Becky are so compassionate. Like a light at the end of a very very long dark tunnel. Listen to them! This level of work takes a considerable amount of time and knowhow and the time and knowledge more than outweighs the compensation. They are a law firm and will need to be compensated as such so they can stay in business and have a life themselves. Going into this, you need to realize that it is ultimately the homeowners creation of their situation at some point along the way and be willing to accept this, fully. That will be the only way you will get through this. Look at the big picture and do not get caught up in the minutia of the cost, interest rate, submission of documents and trust this law firm will give you an honest view of the situation, whether you like it or not. We had to borrow, sell, rent a room to make this happen but we were comitted to keeping our home. The staff at Michael Ripley law stuck with us for a long time, all the long way through. I hope this office is able to stay in business. Homeowners desperately need their help and guidance because there is just no one else to turn to. If you are in our shoes, give a call. Get that consultation. Even if you jumped through the hoops, got all the docs in on time, had the right income, it is still up to the investor to make the final decision and there is no one that has control over that but them, not us, not the law office. If you are reading this, you probably sit where we did over a year ago. It was our 2nd mod, the first 4 years ago. It is a difficult process but with the help of this office it will give you insight to making the best decisions. Good luck!

Like so many people these days, we had some financial issues. Instead of losing our home, we decided to engage in a loan -modification program with our mortgage company. The mortgage company told us in order to qualify for the program we must stop paying the mortgage. Even though this made us uncomfortable, we blindly followed their advice. This turned out to be a HUGE mistake. We took it upon ourselves to work directly with the mortgage company. It was our worst nightmare. We got the run around. They were constantly losing our paperwork and needed the same information over and over. After this went on for about 9-10 months, we received a notice in the mail that our house was in foreclosure!!! We were completely beside ourselves. The mortgage company was going to take our home. We were so upset. Then a friend suggested that we talk to the Law Offices of Michael Ripley. This was the best advice ever given. We met with the team for an initial consult and decided immediately to hire them to represent us. They stopped the foreclosure process and got the loan modification process on track. We really believe that our loan modification case was one of the most challenging. During the process the mortgage company sold our loan to an new company. However, regardless of all of the obstacles we encountered during the process, Michael Ripley's team were able to overcome them. In September of 2014, we received a loan modification agreement. Our trial was for 6 months. Then in April of 2015 our trial loan was converted in a regular mortgage agreement. We are so grateful for all the team did to save our home. If you are reading this and are considering a loan modification or are currently working with your mortgage company on a loan modification, we suggest you contact the Law Offices of Michael Ripley. There are so many unknown factors that are involved in how a mortgage company approves a loan modification. If we had not hired the Law Offices of Michael Ripley, we would have lots our home.

My wife of 25 years filed a restraining order against me. I am in my seventies, a retired surgeon, and have never had this kind of legal issue. Ms. Keegan did not start by evaluating my ability to pay but instead listened, clearly comprehended my situation, and agreed to take my case. She is a Jurist with the added outstanding qualities of organization, problem-solving, laser focus, attention, and retention of details, and she responds and adapts to changing circumstances with composure. Her patience elevates her to the highest levels of professionalism, coupled with her analysis, writing, and persuasion skills, will give you great comfort that you are represented by the best.

I was referred to Anna by a friend. I needed some legal forms written up and gone over with me. I was also in somewhat of a hurry. Anna was very thorough in explaining everything to me and she was extremely hardworking. She had the forms ready for me in half the time the other attorneys said it would take. She was also very knowledgable in the matter at hand which made me feel safe and protected. I am very thankful for Anna and if you need legal help she is the best.

I needed a few things taken care of legally and I really didn't know where to start. Anna was so knowledgable about exactly what I needed to do and how she could help me. I was calling her with questions all the time and she was always so helpful and kept telling me to call her if I had any other questions! I recommend Anna to all my friends and family anytime someone needs legal advice as she is the best attorney I have come across.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of San Diego, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
