We had the misfortune of being involved in a personal injury case, but fortunate enough to have Tanya, Robert and team in our corner. The truth of the matter is, no one hopes to need an attorney -- but when you do, you'd best have a good one. My case is finally resolved. I feel neutral but optimistic. There were a lot of obstacles to overcome. I'm learning to move on past the negative feelings that a lawsuit will no doubt bring up. That I feel positive at all is largely due to how calm, professional, fair, knowledgeable, connected, responsive, and empathetic Tanya's team is. If you examined my case, it's clear that Tanya, Robert and team did an amazing job. Just about every box was checked. I would still trade it all in a heartbeat for the injury case to never have come up. Only a genie could do that. Tanya, Robert and team were the next best thing. I would not hesitate to recommend this firm, but hope to never need to. As a side note, I happened to notice that the Law Office of Tanya Gomerman was a sponsor for a gala I happened to attend, and I think that's awesome!

Irina and Ashley took on my case and helped secure a really great settlement for me. I appreciate their guidance with all of this as it was my first time seeking legal help. I would certainly recommend this office's services to anyone seeking legal help. Additional kudos for being a female team, it really added to my comfort and belief in their abilities to succeed.

From the moment that I contacted the office of Tatyana Gomerman, I was greeted with compassion and a listening ear, first with Salma Suleyman and then with Attorney Irina Doliner-Kelly. Within 15 minutes, I made one of the best decisions ever, and I hired Attorney Irina. Her expertise and her alacrity at understanding nuances that had confounded others made all the difference. Many times, we share with excitement that someone gets us; when in an unprecedented situation, having an advocate who gets you is of paramount importance. Her tenacity and strategy coupled with strength and kindness were a bright light and a haven in a storm. There should be ten stars on the rating grid, because Attorney Irina Doliner-Kelly deserves them all!

Tanya and her team are extremely professional lawyers with a human side. I was discriminated against and terminated from my work and was not sure who to talk to. Tanya listened to my case with extreme patience, asked for all the details, even pointed to a similar case filed against my employer. She empathized with me and I felt super comfortable talking to her and her team. Eventually, I didn't follow through but I recommend her to anyone who needs help with employment issues. She has all the traits of a successful and professional layer who will stand by you and fight for your rights.

I give a five star since I had a great experience with Tanya's team dealing with my case. I was hit by a left-turning car while I was walking cross the street. After I came back home from ER, I have no idea what should I do next. I quoted online for law firms, and got several calls. Those calls made me feeling even more nervous (one of them even asking me to sign a contract with them via email ASAP). Then I decide to visit some lawyers to have some face to face conversation for advice. And I found Tanya's law office on yelp. She's kind and gave me professional advices and in the end of our first conversation, she said I can talk to other lawyers and take my time to make a decision. I made my decision right away to work with Tanya's team since I feel they are doing the right thing in the right way. One more thing to mention, the firm I talked over the phone mentioned they have some doctors and therapists cooperating with them which sounds a little bit weird or maybe tricky. Tanya's firm doesn't have such. The first thing she asked me to do was to check with my own doctor for a full recovery. For whether I should take physical therapy or when to take that, follow my own doctor's advice. I trust the team a lot since then. There were a lot of documents and bills and the team helped me to handle those very well. Robert did a lot of work negociating with my insurance provider and some other parties, it was time consuming and not an easy work. But Robert took it and handled it very well. I highly recommend Tanya's team.

As a scrappy startup, working with David from the early days of our business, we were able to secure multiple deals with major publishing and entertainment entities in Japan which were not only critical contributors to our success but also withstood the rigors of 2 exits. David's solid knowledge of the entertainment industry combined with his Japanese language ability and expertise in dealings with Japan were perfect to support our business.

Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of San Francisco, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
