Pros
1
Highly knowledgeable and experienced in landlord-tenant law
“Marc is an experienced Landlord-Tennant Attorney. He and his team provide excellent service.”
2
Effective and efficient in resolving complex legal issues
“Marc and his team were able to get each of their (endless) malicious legal tactic stricken down, & then, icing on the cake, got the judge to slap them with one of the largest (if not the largest) sanctions (penalties, like contempt of court) ever for their intentional obstructive behavior.”
3
Responsive and communicative throughout the legal process
“Marc was always on point with a clear sighted authority of the law. He was always five steps ahead of the other team.”
4
Compassionate and empathetic in supporting clients through stressful situations
“Marc helped me manage the stress and uncertainty of being forced out of my home.”
5
Able to achieve favorable outcomes for clients
“Marc and Lauren did a wonderful job with my case. While being coerced out of my home by a behemoth development company, Marc and his team alleviated all of my fears and produced results that far exceeded my expectations.”
Cons
1
Less experienced in client relationship management and communication
“While he's a super nice & caring guy, expressing/communicating that (esp. if hand-holding is needed) is not his strong suit, for sure.”
2
May not be as responsive on smaller, fixed-fee jobs
“So, if you are doing a small (esp. fixed fee) contract job (like some of the negative comments on him before), maybe you'll experience more of that, but for any serious matter that involves his team, you'll get all the 'touchy-feely', interaction time you need (or can afford!).”

Our family was in a dire predicament with a rental property that had been mismanaged by a former PM. This property has been in our family since the 90s and has never been in such a state. I reached out to Marc and he immediately went to task to save us from nightmare tenants who we had been left with. He was super responsive, thorough (understatement) and detailed. He knows tenancy/landlord laws backwards and forwards. He really is the best, especially in a system that is positioned to only protect tenants, even when they’re completely in the wrong. I would highly recommend Marc Branco.

I immediately felt confident with Marc Branco and Partners, P.C. Attorneys at Law, San Francisco, CA representing me during a very traumatic eviction process. My experience with Mr. Branco and his team turned out to be a good experience considering the difficult situation I was in. Mr. Branco is an experienced Landlord-Tennant Attorney. He and his team provide excellent service. He is highly informative, responsive to emails and phone calls. Mr. Branco made me feel comfortable during the initial consultation. I could tell that he was very knowledgeable in his field. From that point on I had confidence in him and his staff, i.e., Tina, Manager/Legal Assistant to represent/assist me during a major life change. He knows the landlord/tenant laws, listened to my concerns, answered my questions, guided me, offered me options, reassured me, he was diligent and has good judgment . He was never brash or intimidating. He explained the eviction process and walked me through it step by step. As a retired and former Supervisor (40 years of service with the SF Court) of Criminal Records and Jury Services , I highly recommend Marc Branco & Partners, P.C. Attorneys at Law of San Francisco, CA.

Marc and his team helped us resolve an issue we had living in an illegal unit. The landlord was breaking the law in various different ways without serious concern or regard. Marc and his team presented several different options and timetables for us. I would recommend him and his team to others too.

Recently, I was placed in a very stressful position of confronting my landlord about some changes they made to our building. When I first reached out to Marc Branco and Partners I did not know anything. I had no idea if I was in the right, or wrong, what my rights as a tenant were, and what options were available to me to resolve the dispute. I met with Lauren and she was simply amazing. She took time to sit down with me and review my tenancy over the last 7 years. She walked me through the process and my options. She informed me that my concerns were valid and that I should be taking action. Over the next few months Lauren methodically prepared and presented our case. At each step of my case Lauren informed me of my options, asked for my opinion and did nothing without my approval. When I was skeptical that we should keep fighting, Lauren’s confidence and experience with these issues put me at ease. When I was intimidated by the big firm they brought on, Lauren wasn’t, she fought for me until we reached a resolution that met all of my needs without compromising. Lauren made a stressful, and overwhelming, situation very easy and manageable with her expertise and compassion for renters. I would recommend Marc and Lauren wholeheartedly for any of your landlord tenant disputes.

I hired and attorney Lauren Jones at the offices of Marc Branco. Both Lauren and Marc were professional and performed their work in a timely and professional manner. My matter was resolved in my favor due in large part to their legal analysis and confident approach. They were committed to engaging the opposing party in straight forward fact based negotiations. I would not hesitate to hire them again.

As a scrappy startup, working with David from the early days of our business, we were able to secure multiple deals with major publishing and entertainment entities in Japan which were not only critical contributors to our success but also withstood the rigors of 2 exits. David's solid knowledge of the entertainment industry combined with his Japanese language ability and expertise in dealings with Japan were perfect to support our business.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of San Francisco, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
