I had a very good experience with Moradi Neufer, my lawyer Ramon was detailed, patient and did a great job navigating a very difficult negotiation, I'd recommend this firm to anyone going through something similar.

I recently had the opportunity to work with Adam Neufer, Ramon Montijo, and Erin Carlson from Moradi Neufer Law Firm on my tedious divorce case, and I am incredibly grateful for their support and expertise throughout the process. From our first meeting, Adam and Ramon demonstrated a high level of professionalism and knowledge in family law. They took the time to thoroughly understand my situation, which made me feel valued as a client. Adam's ability to break down complex legal concepts into understandable terms was particularly helpful, allowing me to make informed decisions at every step. Both Adam and Ramon were not only knowledgeable but also incredibly supportive. They were always available to answer my questions, no matter how trivial they might have seemed. Their respectful approach made me feel comfortable discussing sensitive issues, which is crucial during such a challenging time. I never felt rushed or dismissed; instead, they treated my case with the attention it deserved. The friendly demeanor of Adam, Ramon, Erin made a significant difference in my experience. They maintained a positive attitude throughout the process, which helped alleviate some of the stress associated with divorce proceedings. Their approachable nature encouraged open communication, making it easy for me to express my concerns and needs. I highly recommend Adam Neufer and Ramon Montijo at Moradi Neufer Law Firm for anyone facing family law issues. Their thoroughness, respectfulness, and friendly service turned what could have been an overwhelming experience into a manageable one. I am thankful for their dedication to my case and feel confident in the outcome we achieved together. Thank you, Adam, Ramon, and Erin!

Adam worked diligently to negotiate and achieve the outcome I had hoped for in a complex family law case. From the beginning, he provided support when my expectations were low, and I had limited knowledge or resources. Adam offered insights that no other lawyer had raised during my initial consultation. His calm demeanor, deep expertise, and genuine compassion reassured me that he was fully committed to my case. Thanks to his hard work, I am now able to focus on my family without lingering legal concerns. I highly recommend Adam to anyone facing a challenging family law matter. He treats every situation with dignity, offers factual and relevant advice, and respects everyone involved. Having Adam by your side gives you the best chance at achieving a positive outcome.

Pros
1
Knowledgeable and effective legal representation
“He knows his stuff and will be totally up front with you. He is fair and honest and will do his best for you.”
2
Prompt and responsive communication
“He always responded promptly to my emails and was extremely professional.”
3
Cost-effective legal services
“He was very communicative and followed up with me every step of the way. He always responded promptly to my emails and was extremely professional. He provided a very high level of service and certainly sets a high standard.”
4
Prioritizes client's best interests
“Adam put me at ease during my consultation, asked all the appropriate questions relating to my case, keeping my child's best interest as the focus and didn't make me feel pressured or obligated in any way to hire him on the spot.”
Cons
1
Distracted by personal matters and firm changes
“Adam was stressed out and distracted by personal matters, half of the law firm's partners walking out in Fal”
2
Sloppy work and lack of attention to detail
“The impact of this? He encouraged me to take a deal that would have cost me tens of thousands of dollars more than the law dictated. He made all sorts of mathematical errors in his calculations and could not explain the numbers. The counsel he provided me was terrible, and after a $45k bill, I still feel uneasy with the financial settlement he recommended. Adam's work was sloppy at best: he sent me confidential documents of another client, lacked attention to detail - i.e., sent me cut/paste draft documents with other clients' names in place of mine, forgot my spouse's name, and took weeks to respond and move things along.”

As a scrappy startup, working with David from the early days of our business, we were able to secure multiple deals with major publishing and entertainment entities in Japan which were not only critical contributors to our success but also withstood the rigors of 2 exits. David's solid knowledge of the entertainment industry combined with his Japanese language ability and expertise in dealings with Japan were perfect to support our business.

Hiring the right lawyer is crucial for the success of your case. Here are some important questions to ask during your initial consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of San Francisco, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
