When my sisters informed me that our grandfather’s caretakers had changed his will to their benefit two years before he passed at 103 and that they wanted to hire an attorney to fight it, I was on board. We hired Evans Law Firm. Due to my work schedule, I was rarely able to attend the many phone calls but I was on all the email correspondence. Ms. Evans and her team were very thorough and dedicated to getting the truth. Due to Evans Law Firm’s tenacity, we were able to secure a settlement completely in our favor. I would without a doubt hire Evans Law Firm for Elder Financial Fraud and Abuse cases.

My siblings and I hired Evans Law Firm after we discovered our grandfather’s caretakers had our 101-year-old grandfather change his trust. Evans Law Firm immediately took our Elder Financial Fraud and Abuse case. Ms. Evans has a no-nonsense way of getting to the point, but she does so because she can so clearly see the injustice and it infuriates her. She will then use that as motivation to dig out the truth. And did she! She was a forced to be reckoned with during the depositions and the amount of subpoenaed info she and her team combed through was incredible. Ms. Evans was able to secure a very uncommon FULL settlement in our favor. Without a doubt, I highly recommend Ms. Evans and Evans Law Firm.

Event's Law Firm specifically Ingrid Evens and her team of associates have been the best addition to handling the estate's of my deceased. I am a single father of 3, who was never married to the mother of my kids. I struggle financially after the passing of my loved one. I was in fear that the estates that belonged to our children would be claimed by a certain sister sibling(kid's aunt) related to the deceased (mother of my kids). Ingrid Evens called me personally to give me her condolences. She felt the hurt in my heart. Then she and her team went to work. A situation like this should never happen to anyone. The entire evens law firm was there for me and took on my case knowing of my financial situation. I worked tireless to find legal help till I found the evens law firm. This is a team dedicated to making things right. With full legal knowledge and guidance I feel comfortable knowing they are at my side. My heart hurts for the one I love. The evens law firm took care of the rest and reassured me. They guided me in the right direction. I cannot thank them enough. Its was a blessing to have their help. Thank you Evens Law Firm

Ingrid Evans is a brilliant attorney and a person of great integrity. Her extraordinary legal expertise, exceptional trial skills, and commitment to justice is only matched by her kindness, empathy, and passion to protect the vulnerable who have no voice. Ingrid was a key speaker at a Financial Elder Abuse Conference I attended. Every word of her talk was inspiring and exactly what I needed to hear to realize our story wasn’t uncommon. I shared our story of the nasty legal battle of many years against corporate greed and predatory lending. The lender/salesperson knew mom and dad were sick and dying. But that didn’t stop him from isolating them from family making it easy to prey on them. I never suspected that my mom and dad would be the target of a greedy lender and slick salesman who would intentionally deprive them of their home and the comfortable retirement they worked for all their lives. But that was exactly what happened to my trusting parents. Dad was in the last month of his life with terminal cancer and mom had Alzheimer’s Disease and could only talk about her dogs she loved so much. Without hesitation Ingrid took our case and simply said “It is the right thing to do”. From that moment she sprung into action. She motivated us when we felt helpless and scared. Her organization of our case brought a sense of calm to our family that served us throughout our legal battles and over the years since. She helped us voice mom and dad’s story to prevent similar experiences from happening to thousands of other seniors. We are forever grateful to Ingrid. If you even suspect your elderly parents are victims of financial elder abuse, don’t wait until there is a crisis. Call Ingrid Evans about preventing, detecting, and remedying elder financial abuse of your loved ones.

As a scrappy startup, working with David from the early days of our business, we were able to secure multiple deals with major publishing and entertainment entities in Japan which were not only critical contributors to our success but also withstood the rigors of 2 exits. David's solid knowledge of the entertainment industry combined with his Japanese language ability and expertise in dealings with Japan were perfect to support our business.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of San Francisco, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
