Dawns firm is a power house of hard working professionals. I feel my case could not have been better represented. No lofty promises. Infact just a down to earth approach, with the conviction of a pit bull. Her firm demonstrated a knowledge of the jurisdictions demographic make up in considering the best approach for the best outcome. Was I satisfied with my cases outcome? Hell no. There isn't enough money in the state of California or the whole country to make my losses right. I was completely satisfied with the outcome from Dawn's firm representing me. I believe no other firm could have done a better job or got me more. I not only recommend Dawn, I will make her my first phone call should I need representation in the future. Make her your first phone call.

I have never had to use an attorney prior to my hiring Dawn Hassell and her great team of attorneys at The Hassell Law Group in San Francisco, CA. I am most grateful to have a very good friend refer me to Dawn. From day one, Dawn and her team stepped in to represent me from a point of strength rather than a maybe approach. She went to work immediately to protect me from opposing parties who would have preferred me to make decisions from a point of weakness rather than a point of strength. Dawn and her team of attorneys gave me the advice, the support, the information needed to ensure I made all my decisions to support my case for a just settlement. She went the extra mile to make sure she had all the legal 'ammunition' and follow through available to give as little wiggle room for the opposing party in reaching a very fair resolution to my demands for justice backed up with a strong monetary payout that I could expect given the injuries and suffering I went through as a result of this accident. Even in her wrap up of this case, Dawn continues to give the attention and quality one could expect from professional and compassionate representation. Dawn and her team of attorneys will fight for you all the way. They will safeguard your dignity and will ensure you are well represented from page one to the very end of the case. They will fight for you all the way and will not give up until the last sentence of the last page of the case ends with "...case resolution highly successful benefiting the concerns of the client in every way." I am very happy that I was able to have Dawn Leigh Hassell, Esq. and her team of attorneys at The Hassell Law Group represent me in the complex world of the legal process. When it comes to law and ethics, Dawn is the best. Without a doubt, without a hesitation and with pride and great satisfaction, I highly recommend The Hassel Law Group. Thank you!

Ms Hassell was retained by me after an injury and archived a significant settlement on my behalf. At all times she was professional and efficient, and I was kept well informed and advised despite living on the other side of the world. I was very happy with Ms Hassell's services and the result she achieved for me.

I would like to recommend Dawn Leigh Hassell, Dawn Hassell has represented me several times, on each case that she represented she was able to get me more than what I ever expected. Dawn Hassell gets the job done. I’ve had attorneys in the past but never someone like Dawn, a person that cares about their client not just there to only get a check and be paid, each time I’ve hired Dawn she has shown me nothing but 1st class all the way, she has compassion, devotion and respect for her clients. I am a paraplegic (wheelchair bound) person and I’m treated with the utmost respect when I visit her office, her office is wheelchair accessible and accessible bathroom accommodations that is always in immaculate condition. You can always reach Dawn whenever you call her office, this Is a must when you hire an attorney is being able to reach them, when you call Dawn's office I guarantee you will speak to her and if she is in court she will contact you afterwards. She Is an attorney that never gives you attitude I don’t care how made you may get because things aren’t going as fast as we want them she will always keep it professional and assure you that things are moving along and she will not get off the phone until she carefully explains everything to you. all the cases she handled for me was successful and she got me great settlements, so when you need an attorney look no further Dawn Hassell is the one and believe me you can take that all the way to the Bank meaning (PAID).

I've hired Dawn and recommend her to my friends and family on numerous occasions and we've all been VERY happy. Cases have ranged from minor out-of-court domestic financial disputes to employee discrimination cases to major auto accidents - with injuries - settled in court. Regardless of the size of the case, Dawn brings her full attention with great care and expertise. The results I and others have achieved with Dawn have been positive and in our favor. I always say I want a "pit bull" when hiring a lawyer. Dawn certainly doesn't look like a pit bull, but believe me, she's EXACTLY the person you want representing you in a dispute. I promise you won't regret it!

As a scrappy startup, working with David from the early days of our business, we were able to secure multiple deals with major publishing and entertainment entities in Japan which were not only critical contributors to our success but also withstood the rigors of 2 exits. David's solid knowledge of the entertainment industry combined with his Japanese language ability and expertise in dealings with Japan were perfect to support our business.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of San Francisco, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
