Mr. Ajlouny was beyond professional. He was able to explain the process, strategy of how he will be able to get my case dropped, and gather all necessary documentation right away. Moreover before him I had no idea one could pursuade the DA not to press charges, but this is exactly what Mr. Ajlouny did. He was also very patient with me, and "held my hand" during one of the toughest times in my life. Hands down best lawyer ever!

I cannot express my gratitude enough for the exceptional legal representation I received from Edward during a very challenging time in my life. I was facing a potential domestic violence charge and was incredibly worried about the impact it could have on my future. From our first consultation, Edward put me at ease with his compassion, knowledge, and clear explanation of the legal process. He immediately began working tirelessly on my case and built a strong defense. Thanks to Edward's dedication and skill, the district attorney’s office ultimately decided not to file any charges and discharged me. This outcome has been truly life-changing, and I know I couldn't have achieved it without his expert guidance and advocacy. I highly recommend Edward if you're in need of a skilled and experienced criminal defense attorney. He will fight for your rights, protect your interests, and work tirelessly to achieve the best possible outcome for your case.

Edward. The bottom line - within next two weeks if you don’t meet me for the trial results - I will have the full right to leave you a truthful review here. I will also file the complaint with the State of Bar and file for malpractice. Edward Ajlouny claimed himself being very experienced in his field and failed my case completely- he didn’t do any discovery, didn’t submit any documents to the court, didn’t subpoena the documents he supposed to get for the court, he didn’t explain the laws. He charged money and never returned anything. He was constantly on vacations. Then he said these cases are not appealable and I filed for the appeal. After he didn’t want to give the case materials and go over the trial results - The appeal is not a new trial - what I have now on the appeal is your work I will have to go over. I respect my time and efforts. I am also a lawyer. As a fact, you didn’t do your job for my case. You have two weeks since today - if you don’t comply with the laws, I will do what I said.

Edward helped me get out of an unfortunate situation that could have put me in a lot of trouble with potential criminal charges. From the moment I sent him an email, Edward quickly contacted me and set up a meeting on a weekend (without previous notice) to gather all the information as soon as possible. Edward listened very carefully to all the details and explained the situation clearly, answering all my questions and calming me down. Edward then mentioned that he will convince the DA office that they should not be filing a case against me in the first place, which is what eventually happened; the case got dismissed very quickly and I didn't even have to go to court. If you are looking for a seasoned attorney who knows how things work with the DA office, then call Edward.

Hello, I was facing a two year prison sentence for a VOP plus I caught another two charges. One charge was a felony and the other was a misdemeanor. The first day I met with Mr. Ajlouny he looked at my case and assured me that he would make sure I wouldn't receive any incarceration time. The court day came and he was a complete MIRACLE WORKER. He got my case down from Two years in prison to 90 days down to 45 days then used my 23 days in jail as time and a half for 46 days credit. The outcome was "time served" I HAD TO DO NO PRISON TIME, I walked away that day A FREE MAN. Mr. Ajlouny Gave me his word and stood next to it the whole time. HE'S A GREAT LAWYER and I was confident with his word the whole time.

Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of San Jose, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
