3 felony accounts of DUI w/ injury and $220,000 bail amount. After talking with Kit (Codys team lead) he pulled no punches and told it to me straight. I had waited over a year ... saving for a defense always looking over my shoulder. It was time ... so I had a sit down with Cody ... from that day forward I was in great hands. They got me bonded and after sitting through the court proceeding I was able to see all other defense of attorneys and come to realize that the most professional person in the room was Cody... due the circumstances of my case and his ability to work with the DA .he was able to work a agreement plea that kept me out of prison and will be reduced to a misdemeanor. He was always extremely professional positive and uplifting. Cody is the MAN!!! and his team is amazing ! they all truly care.

I travel alot on business and rely on my license. I recieved a notice that my license was being suspended due to an unpaid citation. I contacted central coast criminal defense and explained that I had never recieved a ticket in San Luis Obispo. I'll be honest, I thought no one would believe me but I was wrong. Kit listened to me and told me he would contact the court immediately have them pull the original citation and work on proving someone had stolen my identity. I put all me trust in this law firm and they delivered. The warrant was removed and ticket dismissed and my license was saved. Thank you Kit, Cody and Adrienne for all the work toy did on my case and saving my job.

A few months ago my son, who was living in California at the time, was arrested for Grand Thief of an Automobile. Not knowing anyone else living in California and being located on the other side of the country, I had to find a lawyer to represent him. I performed the usual internet searches and came across Central Coast Criminal Defense (CCCD) and I read about the firm. After reading up about the firm I was convinced that they would be my best chance to be able to help my son in defense of the charges against him. Cody Christiansen and Kit Westbrook fought very hard in defense of my son. Since it was his first offense they were able to get the charges reduced to Joy Riding which is a misdemeanor. This saved my son from a felony charge and possible jail time to only a three year probation. I am very satisfied that I chose CCCD I would recommend them to anyone who needs a great criminal defense attorney. They will work hard to get the best possible outcome for the charges against you.

My family recently hired Cody and his team to defend my son with felony charges. Within a few weeks my son was home with no prison time and his charges brought down to a misdemeanor!! This was short of a miracle!! They always returned phone calls with information and positive outlooks, which was such a relief because we live in Florida and my son was in California. I would highly recommend this firm if you want an aggressive firm that will fight for your well being and your rights. Thank you!!!

I lost my license for 4 years due to a ticket out of my area that was 4K. Not being able to afford most attorneys I had spoken to I felt doomed until Kit agreed to help me at an affordable rate...He gave no promises but boy did he deliver...Just got my license back thanks to cCCD's team...God Bless You!

Robbi Rizzo is an exceptional counselor. I had a complicated case that involved a corporate issue (I shared ownership with my ex in the corporation). In addition, I and my minor child are residing in different county (with venue in SLO). My case lasted 3 years. I changed several attorneys. When Robbi picked up my case (6 months ago), it seemed almost hopeless. Highly ethical, she advised me about the best strategy to take, and went beyond my expectation professionally advising me on the corporate issues with the best outcome I could hope for. I appreciate her great personality, as I felt her sincere desire to assist me, and not just to perform her professional duty. Through the case, she lead me step by step, responding promptly to any of my e-mails with useful comments. I've always felt supported. Without any hesitation, I would recommend Robbi Rizzo to anyone who is looking for a strong legal defense.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of San Luis Obispo, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
