Three years ago, I received a DUI. I have never been in trouble with the law, and never thought I'd find myself needing a Criminal Defense Attorney. However, I was fortunate enough to have Mr. Bobzin as my attorney. Because I have a high profile career, I choose not to disclose my name. But what I can say about Mr. Bobzin is that he is an exceptional attorney and DEEPLY cares about his clients. He was informative, thoughtful, and genuine throughout the process of this horrible event in my life. At the beginning of the judicial process, Mr. Bobzin was able to remove jail time to minimal work furlough, and see that I was put on an informal probation - otherwise I would've received a 60 day jail sentence; which would've potentially cost me my career. After the short work furlough time and 2 years of informal probation, I re-called Mr. Bobzin to help me terminate probation and expunge my record. The results were exceptionally successful! WE WON! In fact, during my early termination hearing, the judge stated I had only been on probation for 2 years and a few months. Mr. Bobzin jumped in and said "Your honor, my client has been on informal probation for 2 years and 6 months". At that point she reviewed court documents and agreed. After that comment the judge granted early termination of probation. Had she believed/overlooked that probation time period, I would still be on informal probation. Because of Mr. Bobzin's skill in the courtroom and attention to detail, I have been granted early termination of probation! Further, he is now requesting expungement of my record, which I have no doubt will be successful. Mr. Bobzin is a skilled, professional, and caring attorney. I cannot express how appreciative I am of his efforts to have helped me in my case.

Mr. Bobzin is an outstanding attorney and I would highly recommend him, without hesitation, to anyone who needs a good lawyer that will represent them skillfully in a court of law. Mr. Bobzin is not only highly ethical but extremely competent and knowledgeable, he ALWAYS puts his clients best interest first and foremost. Mr. Bobzin has experience in many areas of the law. He takes the time to sit with his clients and explain the various aspects of their cases to them, taking the time to ensure that the client understands all of the possible outcomes in their case and the strategy going forward. Mr. Bobzin considers all of the options available to his client as well as all of the potential outcomes in the case. Mr. Bobzin is respectful to both his clients and the court and is able to reach across the aisle to help reach an outcome that is beneficial to his client. What we need more of these days are "REAL ATTORNEYS" like Mr. Bobzin. Retain this attorney for your case and you will not be sorry with the representation or outcome!

Today I contacted Mr. Bobzin. My brain trauma/dementia and my daughter's legal issues are not easy to weed thru for MOST other Lawyers I have contacted. Mr. Bobzin treated my embarrassing health issues and legal difficulties with the utmost respect. He did NOT treat me like I was less than him, since he had knowledge of what I did not. I was so impressed with him taking time for me and my daughter's legal issues that I even asked him to mail me some business cards.

Mr. Bobzin was my criminal defense attorney. He stuck by my side for eleven months while my case was moved from court room to court room. He never made me feel uncomfortable or insecure. He informed me every step of the way. He fought for me when they attempted to second strike me. My case finally made it to Preliminary Hearing and the judge threw it out! I would have still been sitting in jail if I had not hired Mr. Bobzin. He was able to get my bail reduced and reinstated and we fought this from the outside! I cannot give Mr. Bobzin enough praise!

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of San Marcos, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
