Don't hire her. She works with the opposing attorney to drag out your case. She let's the opposing attorney know what your going to do like serving legal papers. She cost me over $20,000.00 for nothing. I had to get another attorney to finish the job correctly. She's the worst. Find someone else.

I have known Lila Allen for twenty years and she is a very ethical, professional and skilled attorney for family law in Orange County. I personally use her for special appearances and send her family law cases.

One of the few, honest attorneys around. Lila cut through the "legalese" and handled my difficult case and my ex.

My boss referred me to Lila Allen the day I was served divorce papers at my workplace from my husband. I was almost numb from the shock not to mention devastated. During the process I found out he had a women friend that wanted to "take-over" the divorce proceeding even though she was not a lawyer nor did she possess as much as a high school diploma. She showed up at our meeting with Lila and sat herself down in the office often interrupting . it was embarrassing and shocking and even my ex-husband-to be was embarrassed and ashamed and just sat and hung his head. This was such an awkward situation and I vividly remember how professional Lila was and how she was able to quietly diffuse the woman while maintaining her poise as she escorted her to the door. I cannot recommend a more honest and professional attorney than Lila Allen. She took care of everything promptly and professionally in spite of this AMAZON woman who later came back and started using foul language. Again, Lila never lost her composure and worked through the entire situation assertively establishing an amicable solution and settlement. What stands out even more, is Lila's compassion and understanding of human behavior during such a vulnerable and trying time. I highly recommend her to any person who is seeking legal consultation from an attorney that has integrity, compassion, "knows their stuff" and is fair and honest at the same time. I am so grateful to my boss for recommending Lila!

I dont know what the person below is talking about!! Lila helped me get a substancial amount of spousal support! She came to my home several times and even drove me to my meetings and court!! She went above and beyond to help me. She was very knowledgable and always answered my calls. She even worked with me on fees, which I was very greatful. I do call her time to time and have had questions and she has always been there for me. (No Charge) I will always be very greatful to her in my time of need.

I want to thank the law offices of Christopher McCann and for helping me out with my DUI case. Him and his staff are very well prepared and know exactly what they are doing. As soon as I decided to go with Mr. McCann he had a game plan and sprung into action. The competition was asking for me to speak to their secretary and to send them emails overall just too many things. If you hire Christopher that is who you are going to get a one on one experience with your lawyer. What I really liked about my Chris and his team is that they always kept me in the loop with anything that happened in my case. Over all 10/10 experience I would definitely recommend him if you want a good experienced lawyer. He was able to get my DUI case dismissed.

Rex provided outstanding service! I was surprised by how simple the filing process was, as he clearly explained each step and kept me well-informed. His guidance has lifted a huge weight off my shoulders, and I can now move forward with my life. The debt management courses also left me feeling prepared to avoid future financial issues. Rex’s fees are great, and he offers payment plans, which is a big help. I highly recommend him to anyone needing bankruptcy assistance. I’m extremely thankful—thank you, Rex!

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Santa Ana, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
