Chris is literally the best thing that happened to me. I became a mother at 17 and became a Single Mother Shortly after . After struggling with my Child Father for Years I decided to Hire Chris. And he Helped me tremendously . My son is now 7 turning 8 and sees his father 30% of the time. Before it was 0% and dad was aiming for 100% at one point. I couldn’t be happier with the outcome. Chris was always amazing with communication which was important to me. Can’t go wrong with this guy. He doesn’t do it for the Money he does it for you.

I utilized Chris’s services this past year, during which I was a gestational surrogate. He was a pleasure to work with. He responded to all of my emails quickly, more so than any other attorney I have worked with in the past. Chris went over all contracts thoroughly and made sure I understood everything fully. Chris made this experience run efficiently and smooth, which is something I need in my hectic life. My husband tends to get off work really late, but Chris was able to set aside a time where he could discuss the contract with him also, which my husband and I were very thankful for. He was able to put my husband’s mind at ease during this whole process, which trust me, is a very hard thing to do. I am extremely happy I decided to use Chris for my first experience with surrogacy. I will definitely be using him on my next journey, which is hopefully in the next year. Thank you Chris!

I was referred to Chris Jackson from a fellow family member who is also an attorney. I was skeptical but my family member assured me that Chris was the best in the business. I was going through a time of confusion and vulnerability. My ex wife took me to court and she had a lawyer but I didn't. The day of seeing the judge I left that court room with nothing except more bills owed to the ex spouse and only 10% child visitation. When Chris got involved everything changed. Within eight months Chris was able to turn my whole case around. Instead of the ex taking my house, half the business, assets, ect he was able to put things in my favor. I walked away with 50/50 child visitations, keeping my business, house and all my hard earned assets which I worked my ass of for and on top of all that was able to settle with the ex wife for under 20k. I'm not much of a guy who gives rave reviews or even take time to write a review but for whoever is reading this know that Chris and is company (Shorebreak Law) are the real deal and can pretty much save you from any situation if you listen to and follow the information he provides. Thank you Chris money or words can’t express my gratitude.

Chris Jackson at Shorebreak Law was AMAZING. Our contract review was easy and thorough. He explained things in a way I easily understood, not having a legal background at all. On top of that, he was very caring and easy to talk to and his passion and experience was evident throughout our multiple conversations. HIGHLY recommended!

I want to thank the law offices of Christopher McCann and for helping me out with my DUI case. Him and his staff are very well prepared and know exactly what they are doing. As soon as I decided to go with Mr. McCann he had a game plan and sprung into action. The competition was asking for me to speak to their secretary and to send them emails overall just too many things. If you hire Christopher that is who you are going to get a one on one experience with your lawyer. What I really liked about my Chris and his team is that they always kept me in the loop with anything that happened in my case. Over all 10/10 experience I would definitely recommend him if you want a good experienced lawyer. He was able to get my DUI case dismissed.

I was referred to Jennifer by a close friend of mine after she got her a very good settlement. I hired her to represent me on my Workers compensation case and she was really detailed in explaining everything to me and was very attentive to me as well. I highly recommend her for her knowledge of Workers Compensation and injured workers rights, she definitely goes above and beyond for her clients. I am very happy that I found an attorney that was always on my side.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Santa Ana, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
