Mr. Beckman misplaced my papers and spoke to me like I was an idiot. My experience with Mr. Beckman leads me to believe that he places himself above his clients and has little respect for women.

Mr. Joel James Beckman, Family Law Attorney, Santa Fe Springs, California. I retained him for my divorce. At first he begged me to take my case. I did not want to hire him, but he begged me to hire him, so i did. I gave him a retainer. Well, he would cuss me out in his office on certain issues. He was totally unprofessional and I am the paying client. He told me he was going to help immensely. So I retained him and gave him a retainer. The balance of the bill he was going to lien my house Well, when the real estate market fell, he quit my case. I would meet with this individual in his office and he would cuss me out. I mean really vulgar language and i am the paying client. I went to jail on a restraining order. I called him from jail and he cussed me out up and down. I am paying this individual for his services and this is the way he treats me. I ended up firing him. I do not recommend this lawyer at all. He lacks professionalism and he reneges on written agreements and on top of that he cusses me out. He has no business being a Family Law Attorney. I would fire him again and again. I do not recommend anyone hiring this lawyer. I truly believe that he violated the law by signing a contract that he would lien my house for the remainder of his lawyers fees. Is this the kind of lawyer you want to hire?

In 2018 I got a DUI, and while other attorneys didn't want to take my case because it was challenging. Mayda took my case and was very honest with me, which is something I valued and appreciated. My case was very challenging because I got into a big accident. Mayda fought my case in court and was able to drop the charges. I am forever grateful for her hard work and expertise. I 100% recommend her and her entire team at Confianza Legal.

Attorney Shapiro is an excellent attorney. He will fight for you to the very end. He was the only attorney that finally won my Social Security Disability benefits for me, after a very long 10 year fight with Social Security. Without the help of Attorney Shapiro, I would still be without my truly deserved benefits. So if you need a thorough and hard working attorney, give Attorney Shapiro a call immediately. I am sure that you won't be disappointed.

Top notch experience from the day I chose Hector as my lawyer. I would recommend to all my friends and family. It was a tough time through my car accident but having Hector on my side made the whole process so much easier. If you experience a car accident. Call Hector first.

Hector is an excellent Probate Attorney. As a Real Estate agent that focus on helping families that go through this process and work with different attorneys and their staff in this field, Hector and his team are amazing. They had made the process easier for my clients to navigate, keeping them inform of the process, is in constant communication with the families and with the parties involved in the transaction, so the clients don't feel lost and have no clue of where they are in the process. Will definitely continue recommending clients to him.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Santa Fe Springs, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
