Generally, I am not a person that writes reviews. However, Mr. Stark is such an exceptional attorney, that I felt compelled to let others know. Mr. Stark does not, (thankfully), fit the stereotypical attributes of most attorneys that I have encountered. He is direct, honest and truly seems to care about the well being of this clients. He listens. He replies honestly and with very knowledgeable responses based on experience. He is not robotic and arrogant, as most attorneys that I have consulted with in the past. He is very knowledgeable about licencing issues, so if you are in a health or medical related field and have licensing questions or concerns, he is the one to see, though he specializes in other areas as well. Granted, may I add, he is also extremely humble, as he has a PhD and teaches Law and isl also is also a Judge. I found him to be quite generous with his time, and did not stare at his watch like many attorneys will do after a few minutes. This attorney is not driven my money, rather by helping those in need of assistance. He also has a great sense of humor, which helps greatly when stressed! I could not be happier about the outcome. Mr. Stark goes above and beyond to assist his clients. I am so glad to have consulted with him. Highly recommend!

I needed an attorney for a complicated case and two separate people recommended Mr. Stark. Boy, were they correct. Smart, diligent, honest, hard working and kept us informed of the good and the bad at every step. Great results. All attorneys should be like him. Plus, he's got a dry sense of humor which helped to diffuse our anxiety. Highest recommendation!!!!

Typically when you are in need of an attorney it is because something isn't going as it should, or there was a wrong of some kind. Many attorneys forget that their clients are people, who are not always familiar with the legal system, and these situations cause a lot of stress for most of us. Mr. Stark is empathetic and has the ability to explain things in a way that the average person can understand. I didn't feel like I had to take a Latin course to have a conversation with him. He is very clear and instead of being confused, you will feel empowered by the knowledge you gain from him. His confidence and preparedness will also put you at ease. There is nothing worse than feeling like you could do a better job than your attorney and feeling helpless as you watch he or she blunder around. That will not happen with Mr. Stark, he is a phenomenal attorney. Mr. Stark is not only a skilled litigator who will come up with perspectives most attorneys would not even think of, because he knows the law inside and out and is always prepared. The other side can not throw him because he will know everything about the case and any laws pertaining to it. Mr. Stark is HONEST and has INTEGRITY, which unfortunately many attorneys that I have dealt with in the past did not. He does not taken advantage of people or prey on clients at a time when they need help. I can not say enough about how wonderful he really is. He will be as invested in your case as you are and you will know it. He truly cares about his clients and works hard for them. If you need an attorney I would strongly recommend him. To put it in perspective I have hired ten attorneys in the last two years for various matters and Mr. Stark is the only one I have written a review for and would recommend.

I had a truly difficult divorce case and Linda was an amazing attorney in every way. Neither one of us had any idea how the divorce would turn out to be so complicated and to this day I am in awe of how she protected my daughter and kept on top of the tedious separation process. The lessons I got from her I use even today in my professional and personal life and the ONLY thing I miss about my divorce is not seeing her anymore. She is a clear and brilliant individual and keeps herself informed about the legal trends and options. I did so much research to go with a solid and excellent attorney and to this day stand by that she was the best that I could have found. I always noticed how well respected she was by her peers and the judges in the court interactions and was happy to have her on my side. Overall, I am forever in her gratitude.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Santa Monica, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
