I have consulted with Matt on a few occasions, and Matt is always available to answer questions and he is so knowledgeable about everything landlord tenant. He even knows a lot of the landlords which is helpful in determining how to handle a situation. I have consulted with other attorneys who don't even compare to his level of care and work.

My building had a pipe burst and there was a huge flood. The city was called due to negligence of recovery and repairs from my landlords. An extremely stressful situation to be in. The property was an illegal unit. The city ordered my landlords to vacate the tenants and to pay us all relocation fees to move out. City codes were violated and it was an illegal operation.
The landlords not only did not cooperate, but also harassed us and in the end unlawfully filed an eviction against me.
I called Matthew in the beginning stages of the city complaints. He was incredibly helpful and informative in the beginning as a consult. Most of the lawyers I spoke to were very distracted and fast talking and hardly paid any attention to what I was saying or the details. They were incredibly vague and quick to then shove a hefty hourly rate before I even knew if I needed a lawyer or not.
Matthew was the only one who really seemed to listen to my situation and offer me advice on how I could move forward or not. He was very kind and patient, yet professional.
Once the city labeled our building as illegal I was threatened and then was served an eviction notice. Matthew advised me on how I could move forward on my own and or with his help. From that point on he represented me.
I could not be more happy with the guidance and work that he did for me. He is incredibly fair and trustworthy. I left the situation with a settlement and did not even have to go to court. Matthew went above and beyond to make sure I was taken care of in the end. Even going through the last stages of retrieving payments from my landlord was made complicated by lack on their end...Matthew rose to the occasion and made sure I was compensated.
Even with challenging circumstances (without going into details).
He was incredibly fair with pricing and empathetic towards my situation. He always told me ahead of time what I was looking at and what to expect so I could make an educated decision ...vs. other lawyers who I have heard about who are quick to do work for you and add charges later for things you never knew about and or were not even aware of.
I was informed 100 percent of the time on what to expect. I also asked a million questions, all of the time!
He is Always so professional and detailed with his responses and requests and I felt supported through out the whole journey...as well as educated through the process. Which may I add was quite long and frustrating at times.
Dealing with landlords is a complete nightmare. Especially in Los Angeles. I feel very blessed to have found Matthew and his team to be, what I consider in my eyes to be the nicest lawyers in LA.

I hired Matthew E. Abrams for an ongoing dispute that spanned many years. Matthew got familiar with all the material collected, consulted with me and finally presented a strong case that took care of my problem. I had success with Matt a few years ago when he assisted me in evicting a squatter. This time around, the new property owners bought the property and tried to illegally evict everyone. I immediately called Matt.
Matt is a capable and competent attorney who explains everything clearly. I had no doubt Matt would win my case. The new property owner has a storied history of illegally evicting tenants and flipping properties. Although Silver Lake is RSO (Rent Control), the company relentlessly tried to evict. After they filed an unlawful detainer, I met with Matt at his office and was impressed with his knowledge of how best to respond.
Throughout the ordeal, Matt was professional and quick to respond whenever I called him with questions or concerns. His fee was reasonable and well worth it. Matt stopped the eviction and successfully got the case dismissed. I am forever grateful.

I own 2 6-unit apt. bldgs.; in May 2018, a difficult and complicated situation arose at one of the bldgs. which would normally have required an eviction, but because of Mr. Abrams' excellent guidance, the tenant agreed to voluntarily move. This saved me a good deal of expense, and time. Then several months later a tenant in the other bldg. ceased paying his rent. I didn't hesitate, not even for a moment, to call
Mr. Abrams! That also became a difficult situation; ultimately the tenant left after the Sheriff's visit and left behind an apartment and garage full of belongings, further complicating the situation. Mr. Abrams patiently guided me through the entire legal process.
I've had some experience with other attorneys, and can sincerely say that in addition to being highly knowledgeable, Mr. Abrams is a pleasure to work with -- there's NOT a shred of impatience or arrogance in him. After the initial office visit, he was always available; I did not have to go through a secretary; I was never shunted off to an assistant. He was prompt with responses to my questions; he sometimes wrote me e-mails in response, and often telephoned me with information and updates. He was never in a hurry, always helpful and had carefully thought-out, creative solutions.

I had a brief consultation with Mr. Abrams and he was so helpful in his guidance. He was prompt in responding to me - he listened and asked questions, making me feel acknowledged in how I was feeling about the situation. It's very easy to feel patronized or dumb when it comes to legal issues - he didn't make me feel like that at all. I am confident in his knowledge and expertise on tenant/landlord issues - will be contacting him again for future needs. Highly recommend him.

I called Matthew and he patiently listened to each and every one of my questions/concerns, was able to organize and sort through my convoluted problem and give a very sharp and succinct answer. After only 20minutes, I got off the phone with him with laser clarity on how I needed to move forward. He gave me a clear strategy and plan of action, and all with no sales pitch or obligation to pay anything. Found Matthew from a referral. Navigating a case with a landlord who are willing to bully their way to getting their full payout - even when they are in the wrong is tough. With Matthew, he quickly analyzed the situation and told me the best course of action, which was to settle. Matt has vast knowledge of local and state codes for what constitutes a breach, as well as a deep understanding of the best strategy case by case. His negotiating acumen and tactics proved to be incredibly worthwhile for me to work with him - He was able to negotiate the settlement much more in my favor, even more than I expected. He is incredibly responsive to text, phone and email, and takes pride in being there whenever his clients need him.

I was referred to Matt from another attorney because of a dispute I was having with my landlord and his management company. This was a very stressful situation for me, as I felt like I was being bullied by both the management company and the landlord, but Matt made the whole situation bearable. We spoke throughout the day and he was always available to discuss new developments and give me the best advice and help reassure me of the next steps. Because of him I was able to come to an agreement with the landlord and settle out of court. I have already recommended him to other tenants and I would recommend him to any one else who is having a landlord tenant dispute because of his knowledge, patience and attention to detail.
