Elon Berk was just amazing at everything. He kept everything so simple even though it wasn’t. He was always there to answer questions and the end result was better than expected. We highly recommend using him.

I hired Mr Burke for a simple investigation after he scared me into the idea of being in trouble when really nothing was there. After I paid him It was almost impossible to get a hold of him. I asked him for updates numerous times to which he never responded. Terrible customer service, and a terrible experience. Still can't believe I was charged for nothing. Mr Berk has never bothered to refund unused retainer while having ignored e -mails and phone calls. Dishonesty at its worst. Just a bunch of "con-artist". I've never heard that a Legal professional can charge large amount of money in Retainer, do absolutely nothing about the case and after all ignoring request for a refund. I would never recommend anyone to retain Mr. Berk's services.

Elon Berk was able to help me to dismiss my case. He was very professional and treated me like a family member. Always on time and never missed a court appointment. I highly recommend him if you are looking for an experienced criminal defense attorney in Los Angeles area!

before hiring, I was offered an option for my case, though Elon would take care of me, but at the end it's all talk. Ended up with the same exact deal I was offered in first place. Showed up 35 minutes late to my final hearing like a bigshot clown. It was something to learn and not repeat in the future after hiring this late puppet.

I hired Berk & Gurovich based on a rec from another attorney who shares their offices. My case was unusual as I was falsely accused of elder abuse by my 80 yr.old schizophrenic uncle who claimed I stole his money. The sheriff's deputy who filed the case was a corrupt cop who ignored the fact my uncle was a schizophrenic, had previously tried to file similar charges against my mom, who is institutionalized, & suffers from dementia. This false claim ended up in Airport Court by Lax, assigned to an asst. DA. The reason I hired & had faith in their skills & assumed their abilities to get this bogus claim dismissed quickly, was because how much Berk boasted how well they're "connected" in the court, knowing the sheriff's lead deputy & judges, & Dmitry's bulldog tactics. Nothing could've be further from the truth!! Dmitry shuffled my case to Berk, whom I learned fairly quickly didn't pay attention, write anything down, was always distracted scrolling through his cell, needed constant reminders of the details of my case, plus was never prepared at anytime we had a court date. They were quick to take a $9k retainer, but did nothing proactive to end this case quickly. Berk let it drag out for 8 months because he knew there was no probable cause. He never wrote a case summary so that the asst. DA was aware of the fact that my uncle was a paranoid schizophrenic who suffered from dementia, & had a history of accusing family , care givers & medical staff of theft & or physical abuse. If she had known the facts at our first meeting, she would've been educated & not have wasted the courts time in determining whether or not this case was worthy of a trial. It took 6 months until she was even aware of the details, she bullied Berk @ every informal meeting monthly. He never asserted himself, never had any copies of fiduciary, power of attorney, bank records, nor the fact he was deemed incapable of handling his own financial affairs for over 6 years by the VA where he resides for many years under the care of medical staff. I trusted them that they were professionals who would honor their own words, looking the part in their nice suits & penthouse suite, but that wasn't my experience. Yes, my case was finally dismissed after months of anxiety & Berks lack of integrity, but it was hell. They gave no accounting of their time, so essentially Berk got paid $600/hour to drive to & from the court 8 times at the cost of $9k. Do the math, 600 x 2 hours=1200 x8 + $9600, All he did was clock in, talk briefly to the asst, DA, then set another date for the next month. Only at 1 meeting after 6 months, did she learn the details of my case because she subpoenaed the cop, my uncle, my sister & his care giver. It wasn't until she questioned his care giver that she was enlightened that my uncle was mentally ill, suffering from lifelong paranoia, having hallucinations & accuses everyone of theft. (she wasn't even subpoenaed) so luckily she was their. Berk wasn't even present at that juncture because he felt it wasn't important that he hear their statements!!!!! The care giver called my sister & informed her of the info she provided & that the DA was shocked to learn the truth & facts of his mental condition. 2 months later I received a full dismissal, it was a tremendous relief, I knew I'd be exonerated, but the anxiety until I was, was horrible. When I read other reviews of all the positive experiences others have had with GBA Law, I feel duped because I had such a miserable one. Other reviewers expressed similar issues w/Berks lack of attention & integrity, A few I read were from women w/similar stories. Perhaps he thinks women are stupid & don't pick up on his lack of integrity. I wish I had a good experience & could post a 5 star review, but my association w/them forced me to report them to the Bar Assoc.& file a complaint w/the Fee Arbitrators, & post bad reviews.

Aidin is and forever will be my hero. I was dealing with the WORST bullying and harassment at work I’d ever experienced. I was then re-victimized when I was terminated for reporting it. Aidin took the time to actually listen to me as I explained the abuse and manipulation that was taking place there. For the first time I felt like I was not just being heard but fully understood. I am very grateful to him and Diana for representing me and I’m very happy with the outcome they achieved for my case. Now I have the closure and the means to move on to the next phase of my life. If you are considering a firm to represent you this is the one. I highly recommend them. Another special thanks to Marisol who was always so kind and helpful on the phone. Thank you Starpoint!

Received a traffic ticket (Radar/Laser speed trap) and hired Phil to defend me. I gave him the details of my case and after delaying the process (which was intentional), Phil personally met me in court to defend me. He prepared me in advance what to expect and prepared me for testimony. Once trial began, his questioning of the officer was top notch, and was so effective, not only did he get the case dismissed and my ticket refunded, he impressed others in the court room waiting for their case to be called (they actually came up to him to say so outside the courtroom). I highly recommend Phil for his professionalism, communication and results!

Phil was great throughout my experience--he handled the case turnkey, but also took time to explain details of the process, options, etc. During my court appearance he was considerate of my priorities, and advanced a number of thoughtful ideas in my defense. Ultimately he succeeded in getting the case dismissed, which I had not realistically expected to be possible.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Sherman Oaks, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
