If you are reading this in search for a personal injury lawyer, stop right now and call Lou. There is one thing you need to know about Lou: he is the MAN! This was my first time ever needing to hire a lawyer, so I had no clue where to start. I knew I wanted an experienced, confident, knowledgable, unrelenting, witty, reliable, and educated attorney. I am happy to say that Lou was all of the above plus MORE. After a very painful and traumatic experience at my apartment in my first week living in Los Angeles, Lou was there to guide me every step of the way to find justice. All I wanted was to get compensated for my medical expenses, but the insurance company of the apartment complex was giving us the run around and trying to pull a fast one on us by avoiding our demands. Lou went above and beyond by tracking down the root of the problem and pressuring them to follow through on their end. I would never have been able to do any of this without him. Most lawyers surely would have given up on my case after the trouble it posed, but Lou stuck through with it and it ended up recovering all of my medical bills plus over 4 times what they cost me for pain and suffering. He is a great lawyer, a better person, and truly wants to help people. His office is immaculate, his associates are professional and prompt, and his business is a prime example of how a business SHOULD be run in SoCal. Hopefully I will never have to find myself in a situation where I need Lou again, but if something DOES happen to me, Lou is on my speed dial.

After some research I found Lou and his team. I am so happy and blessed to have found them. They helped me at every point of the process. Their high quality service and level of professionalism was exactly what I needed after an accident and injury. They managed all the details while I recovered. I would recommend this firm in a heartbeat, without any reservations.

I was a passenger in a car that was rear ended. I was getting the run around from the insurance company when I tried to deal with them myself. I was very pleased with my experience with the offices of Lou Cutrone and associates. My first meeting with Lou was pleasant and since he is in the valley his office was also easy for me to get to. The team kept me informed of what issues there could be and they did turn out to be correct! I was especially happy with the responses I got when I had questions. Lou and his team were very prompt when returning phone calls and emails. I appreciate this professionalism very much. I recommend Lou and his team to anyone who is in need of a personal injury lawyer.

Lou is the kind of attorney that everyone would hope to find; honest, hardworking, kind, concerned and very knowledgable. After a traumatic accident I researched online and found his practice. From the first meeting I knew he was the one. I left his office feeling completely confident that he had my back and would handle the tough stuff and I could just concentrate on healing. He is always available to take my calls and answers my questions honestly and so that I understand everything. This attorney gives attorneys a great name! He will be our family attorney for life.

Lou Cutrone was highly recommended to me after I had an accident while visiting in L.A. in Feb. 2015. Although I live in Pgh, Pa., he has never failed to return my calls promptly, or find the answer to anything I asked of him. He is extremely interested in helping his clients and shows he is a very caring person, In a second I would say "call Cutrone & Associates"

Aidin is and forever will be my hero. I was dealing with the WORST bullying and harassment at work I’d ever experienced. I was then re-victimized when I was terminated for reporting it. Aidin took the time to actually listen to me as I explained the abuse and manipulation that was taking place there. For the first time I felt like I was not just being heard but fully understood. I am very grateful to him and Diana for representing me and I’m very happy with the outcome they achieved for my case. Now I have the closure and the means to move on to the next phase of my life. If you are considering a firm to represent you this is the one. I highly recommend them. Another special thanks to Marisol who was always so kind and helpful on the phone. Thank you Starpoint!

Received a traffic ticket (Radar/Laser speed trap) and hired Phil to defend me. I gave him the details of my case and after delaying the process (which was intentional), Phil personally met me in court to defend me. He prepared me in advance what to expect and prepared me for testimony. Once trial began, his questioning of the officer was top notch, and was so effective, not only did he get the case dismissed and my ticket refunded, he impressed others in the court room waiting for their case to be called (they actually came up to him to say so outside the courtroom). I highly recommend Phil for his professionalism, communication and results!

Phil was great throughout my experience--he handled the case turnkey, but also took time to explain details of the process, options, etc. During my court appearance he was considerate of my priorities, and advanced a number of thoughtful ideas in my defense. Ultimately he succeeded in getting the case dismissed, which I had not realistically expected to be possible.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Sherman Oaks, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
