I can't say enough good things about Louisa Pensanti and her team this is my second time using Louisa Pensanti, and she is truly a force to be reckoned with on both defense and plaintiff representation. When she is in the courtroom, she is in her FLOW state, and everything she does is very well calculated and delivered with precision with such a natural ease like a well-conducted symphony orchestra, but for your defense in the courtroom and the best sounding symphony you've ever heard! I am a business professional who made some mistakes in my early 20s, and now I am older into my 30s had some minor civil issues and Louisa is my go to person for a reason, she's worth every penny. Whatever it costs it's worth it for the piece of mind you will get knowing you have a VETERAN of the courtroom on your team. She's more than a lawyer; she cares about her clients, and it shows in her passion for each case. Never seen anything like her and I know what the options are out there, and she is like hiring special forces. There's a lot of gimmicky attorneys out there on TV and the internet, but this review comes from the heart. Louisa always finds the Achilles heel in every situation. She truly takes on each case as if it was happening to her or a member of her family. A day in court with Louisa as your council is not just another day at the office, each and every day you have Louisa she will bring the best defense money and gold can buy. Thank you, Louisa Pensanti and Associates.

On the worst day of my life I was cleaning my gun when it went off accidentally and mortally wounded a 12-year-old family friend who was walking by in the kitchen. He was shot in the left arm and chest. I panicked in fear and ran out of the house. I learned the police were looking for me and that I was charged with 1st Degree Murder. I was facing life in prison. Attorney Louisa Pensanti drove to my location, picked me up in her car and took me to detectives for a voluntary turn in. I could not afford both an attorney and bail so I stayed in San Bernadino County jail for 8 months awaiting trial. At trial, Attorney Louisa Pensanti convinced the jury that it was an accident and I was only found guilty of involuntary manslaughter. I was given credit for time served and then released. I authored this when I heard that someone had written a defamatory review and realized that I had perhaps been negIigent in not posting a review myself. I learned a great deal about this womans character as she plead my case to a jury of my peers with my entire future at stake. She has an abundance of moral courage and a strong belief in humanity and forgiveness. Obviously the jurors agreed with and were greatly moved by her. I am forever grateful.

I took a troubled teen into my home and was charged with 15 counts of child molestation. I was facing life the way that I was charged. It was risky and nerve wracking but I took it to trial. I was and am innocent. A jury agreed. I went to trial with Louisa Pensanti was found not guilty. She's a class act.

I was on probation in Victorville CA when my boyfriend -who was on on parole - and his friends began dealing drugs. I ended up being arrested with them on drug charges and possession of stolen property and drug charges. Fourteen people were arrested all together and the story was on the news and front page in the paper. In court a "package deal" was offered for all 14 of us but we all had to agree to what was offered and it required that my probation be violated and that I go to prison for 6 years. Ms Pensanti said that she would not send a mother of 3 children to prison and told me not to be afraid. There were at least 20 people in court that day and all of them were angry at her for ruining their deal. One of the attorneys was so mad he was yelling at her in the courtroom. About 60 days later I plead to the Civil Narcotics Offenders Program which sent me to rehab for 6 months and even reversed the felony conviction that I was on probation for when Ms Pensanti figured out it was an illegal sentence. When we were in court the judge didn't know how to take the plea and they had to call another judge in another city to figure it out. All they were used to doing was sending people to prison. I am now reunited with my 3 children, in recovery and I have no record. Thanks Louisa.

We live in Compton and were horrified to learn that our 26 - year - old son had sex with a 13 - year - old girl while they were both under the influence of drugs and alcohol. Besides being impaired he did not know the girls' age, as she looked and acted really mature. To make things worse he admitted what he had done to detectives. The District Attorney wanted to send him to prison 6 years. They were very serious, stubborn and intent on that. Intead Ms Pensanti arranged for a 90 day evaluation where he was sent to a prison to determine whether he was worthy of probation. Their eventual recommendation was for a state prison term. We knew that our son's actions were wreckless and criminal but felt strongly that prison would ruin his future. Attorney Pensanti and her team then brought in an expert who, along with her convincing argument caused the judge to grant probation. With their help we got our son home. We are a close Latin American family. We strongly recommend her.

Aidin is and forever will be my hero. I was dealing with the WORST bullying and harassment at work I’d ever experienced. I was then re-victimized when I was terminated for reporting it. Aidin took the time to actually listen to me as I explained the abuse and manipulation that was taking place there. For the first time I felt like I was not just being heard but fully understood. I am very grateful to him and Diana for representing me and I’m very happy with the outcome they achieved for my case. Now I have the closure and the means to move on to the next phase of my life. If you are considering a firm to represent you this is the one. I highly recommend them. Another special thanks to Marisol who was always so kind and helpful on the phone. Thank you Starpoint!

Received a traffic ticket (Radar/Laser speed trap) and hired Phil to defend me. I gave him the details of my case and after delaying the process (which was intentional), Phil personally met me in court to defend me. He prepared me in advance what to expect and prepared me for testimony. Once trial began, his questioning of the officer was top notch, and was so effective, not only did he get the case dismissed and my ticket refunded, he impressed others in the court room waiting for their case to be called (they actually came up to him to say so outside the courtroom). I highly recommend Phil for his professionalism, communication and results!

Phil was great throughout my experience--he handled the case turnkey, but also took time to explain details of the process, options, etc. During my court appearance he was considerate of my priorities, and advanced a number of thoughtful ideas in my defense. Ultimately he succeeded in getting the case dismissed, which I had not realistically expected to be possible.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Sherman Oaks, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
