The best for family law representation. I had a high conflict divorce case involving children— Brandon and Sylvia were amazing, diligent and intelligent. I wouldn’t trust anyone else with my case.

The statue of Iustitia at the front office Brandon’s office is not there just for decor. I was in the worst predicament of my life—feeling hopeless, lost, angry, tired, anxious and wishing I never said the words “I do”—when I first laid eyes on this sculpture as I waited for my consult appointment with Brandon. I had to change from a previous attorney due to many issues that complicated my divorce. Doubtful but persistent with my search of a good counsel against my ex-husband’s, I slowly gained confidence after my first meeting with Brandon. That day, Brandon’s team met me with empathy and compassion. His paralegals Ashley and Keith, and associate attorney Brittany, were all superb. All their communication with me were full of care touching on sensitive subjects related to the case which they handled with utmost grace and professionalism. Brandon fought for my case and was an exceptional litigator. Not only is he a remarkable attorney when it comes to litigating a case, he is also an extraordinarily fair human being. I’m beyond grateful for the services of the Law Offices of Brandon Sua and I highly recommend his practice to those seeking real justice.

I was referred to Brandon after leaving my old attorney due to lack of progress and spending lots of money…..with minimal results. Not only that, I was done feeling like I was the “back burner” client. When I went to Brandon, I had about 10 percent visitation with my son, a crappy agreement with my ex-wife (completely favoring the mother) and very little money left to retain another attorney. Brandon and his team took me in, saw my love for my son, gave me an affordable service, and put together a great case. I also felt a huge difference with them as far as client/attorney relationship. They fought hard for me and helped me gain 50% custody of my son. As well as help resolve numerous issues I had with my ex-wife. One of the best days of my life was the day I was granted equal custody of my little boy. It could not have been done without Brandon and his skilled team. They were diligent and compassionate and we were totally successful in and out of the courtroom. My son is almost four years old now and unfortunately court has been necessary in order for him to be in my life. When a mother goes out of her way to prevent the bonding of a father and his son, you need support and you need professionals. I plan to keep the Sua team on my side for many years to come. Not just for my son, but I feel confident that Brandon and the whole crew will be there for me if other things ever come up where I need some solid representation. I know one day my son will be just as thankful as I am for the results we got.

I am a single Mom of 5 kids who over 21 year period went through many things with an ex-husband who was abusive mentally and physically. I raised my children in Simi Valley CA in a family oriented neighborhood never realizing simply coming and going to football, baseball, basketball, dance, elementary, middle school & high school .... between 4 & 5 jobs would make such an impression on a young man who would one day grow to be a successful attorney, father and husband, business owner..... all while simply sending a friendly wave hello through the neighborhood. I never realized this young man and his team would one day support a Mom who has limited education and little money into a court case of a Mom who essentially raised 5 kids alone for many many years as though I was their only client yet knowing they had so many other cases going on such as murder trials and very high end profile cases that really should consume all of their time.... still made time for me a single Mom with little money and little knowledge of how to defend myself after many years of struggle with same man were willing to support me on my case giving me hope and dignity after many years of fighting a battle alone in court & in life. Brandon Sua law offices and his team Raphael have supported me through a time I thought once again almost 15 years I thought I'd be battling alone. No words to describe their support and true conviction to helping a somewhat, "Regular girl," out! No words ...... my case is in mid process .... if it doesn't end up favorably for me which I will report I still would feel honored & blessed for Brandon Sua & his team unwavering dedication and commitment to my simple little divorce case after raising 5 kids alone .... for over 13 yrs alone!!!!

I am so thankful I hired law offices of Brandon Sua and Associates, me and my daughter will be forever grateful for having a messed up unfair situation where I was raising a little girl with almost no help from her father, while doing everything, raising her teaching her, on my own with no financial help from him. The amount of court ordered child support and child custody orders could not have been more FAIR and it will help me so much with my daughter, thank you so much to this firm they rock!!!!! I will refer anyone I know to the Sua law firm!

Martin is a work comp specialist. He got me a fair settlement and my injury was fixed and everything was paid for. Even though I recovered 100% after surgery, I still got a settlement afterward. ALl his years of experience sure shows when you need someone who knows their stuff.

I have worked with James for years now and he is a leader in the industry. James takes time for all of his clients and gets the job done. He is by far the most knowledgeable attorney I have met in the legal field. When it comes to workers' compensation defense and self-insured litigation, James is my go to attorney.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Simi Valley, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
