I hired Wilmer and his team to handle my employment case and we were able to push for a settlement 2 years after the first complaint filed. I was rejected by many many other attorneys at first since my profession is hard to understand by straight forward illustrations. Many other attorneys told me my case will be hard to be comprehended by jury if we go to trial. I went with another 5 star attorney at first and he dropped me after 1 st complaint filed. Wilmer was the 1st attorney who told me he would take my case. After the other attorney dropped me, I went back and asked Wilmer if he would accept me, Wilmer accepted me and he cured the mess ever since. Not only he was experienced and empathetic, he was very smart and learned about my case in a professional way. Even though my final settlement was slightly short compared to my target, I still strongly recommend Wilmer. He was truly kind and truly a fighter against hidden discrimination. I was impressed by his first depo against the defendant, which made the defendant a stupid liar, in a very professional way. I truly appreciate his help. I strongly recommend him as a past client by all my heart

Wilmer is a deeply experienced and thoughtful attorney who helps set client expectations well based on his knowledge of the legal system and typical length of cases before resolution. He is also extremely empathetic and helpful. I would recommend him without any hesitation and was referred to him by another attorney who vouched for his high standards and level of excellence.

Wilmer is extremely knowledgeable about his area of law, remarkably intelligent, with exceptional instincts in legal strategy and case planning, always supported by his strong grasp of law and legal precedent. Wilmer took my case that many attorneys in the same field wouldn't touch and achieved success. He guided me through a very complex, precedent-setting case with the utmost integrity and professionalism. I was always informed about developments in the process. Working with him was a pleasure. I would recommend Wilmer to you in a heartbeat!

Once Wilmer took on my case, he displayed his intelligent, determined and caring approach to working with me. He explained all of the legal and administrative aspects of the case to me clearly. He kept me aware of deadlines and gave me materials to review in a timely manner. When I asked, he discussed strategies and tactics with me. We prepared for depositions and meetings and I always felt confident going into them. Working with Wilmer made a complex and difficult situation as clear and comfortable as it could be under the circumstances.

I have had the unfortunate experience of requiring the services of a lawyer throughout my life. Bluntly - most are a joke and a sell out. Not Mr. Harris. In my fifty plus years he is the best and I wouldn't hesitate one minute about asking for his help. Class actions - no problem, employment - no problem. When you are wronged you need the best representation and he is definitely that. Thank you and I truly hope that you consider Mr. Harris. I only wish I would have known him much sooner in life.

My case was in really bad shape, the other party secretly filed for sole everything! without my knowledge, then lived with me for 2 years and never mentioned a thing. When we split they claimed to the courts I was never involved in my childs' life and never responded to the paternity papers. They used every dirty trick you can think of, I had back to back Temporary Restraining Orders being thrown at me, at the same time finding out about another request in our case. The other side wanted to zero out all my time with a default judgement to lock it in. I had only days to reply and went with a family recommendation. This was a mistake! I didn't research the guy, I didn't feel comfortable with his laid back game plan. In fact, he had no plan, and did more harm than good. I wish I would have contacted a serious attorney like Jesse. But I didn't, instead I researched and contacted legal aid organizations. Another mistake. They did help me understand the legal process and really made me feel like I was part of the case, but in fact I see now after using them so many times, they are just lazy and wanted me to write my own case, while they polished it up with legal jargon. After wasting my time and money with those downtown organization and still getting hassled by the other parties unemployed boyfriend and the drunk step dad, the final straw came when they started punishing my daughter for not wanting to call the boyfriend dad. I FINALLY CALLED JESSE! I looked around, did my research. I knew what to look for in an attorney now, I wanted someone who knows the way around the courtroom, who's not afraid to square up in the hallways with other parties attorneys. Jesse didn't let us get pushed around, I immediately got results at custody court and quickly retained Jesse Verdin for my child support case. When I called him, I was a few weeks away from a serious court date. We met up at my conveniences near my house, I have a 5 inch thick case file over the last 4 years. Jesse let me explain everything I went through in the case file, I showed him the main points and he saw my side. Jesse quickly picked up on the lies and mistakes made in the case and new exactly what to do next. Like I said he got IMMEDIATE RESULTS! I couldn't be happier with the way my daughter and mine needs are being represented now. I recommend Jesse to everyone I know and meet. If your taking the time to read reviews like I did, then trust me and go with Jesse Verdin, make whatever sacrifices you need to for you and your family. From my own personal experiences the family legal system is completely flawed and bias towards the stigmatization with fathers in court. Don't get discouraged, your kids need you in their life, Call Jesse to help fight for you in court!

I hired Jesse to represented me in my recent divorce, and I could not be more grateful. Having Jesse's knowledge and guidance made all the difference and removed the stress from a difficult situation. Jesse fought for me, cared about the outcome, and made sure I did not settle for less than what was mine. He was always honest with me in regards to what to expect, and no matter what we went through he was right every single time. My case was complicated, and the fact that he was never thrown a curve ball shows his years of experience with family law in Southern California court rooms. I am incredibly happy with his work, and would highly recommend him to anyone.

I'm delighted to have Mr. Bunn involved in a potentially difficult legal estate-related family situation across three states. He has been thorough and complete in his representation of my interests and keeping me informed of my responsibilities and obligations. I couldn't have completed the task without his help. He came highly recommended from another attorney and choosing him was a sound decision on my part. It's always great to know someone who really knows his field!

Joshwa and his team were amazing partners in estate planning and trust formation. It's a bit daunting to think about how we will set things up for our daughter in a worst case situation, but I was so grateful to have his guidance and efficient process in place. Thank you so much!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of South Pasadena, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
