This is my first time ever seeking help from a lawyer and the experience was great. He keeps you in the loop, and explains things so you can understand. Always gets back to you, in a timely manner, if you happen to call when he is busy. Over all great experience. He is a nice guy and very respectable. I hope he knows I'm grateful for all the time and effort he put into my case.

Staff was friendly, I couldn't have found a more professional group to represent me in regards to my auto accident. I was extremely satisfied with the outcome results. If ever I need legal assistance again I would return to this group. Most notably, I was extremely nervous about the process and Mr. Knapp and his staff made the situation as bearable as it could be.

In April of 2014 a vehicle traveling over 50mph rear ended my vehicle at a stop sign. Being the skeptical pessimist that I am, and knowing the cut-and-dry nature of the case, I was hesitant to seek counsel, despite the pressure from already unsettled, pregnant wife to do so (she's usually right!). However, after the first phone call to the other party's suspiciously inquisitive insurance company, and realizing the full extent of my injuries, as well as the potential for these injuries to worsen or reoccur, I decided to contact Larry and at least pick his brain for general guidance or to find a starting point in dealing with any sort of settlement from the insurance company. Boy, am I glad I did! During mine and my wife's first meeting with Larry, he not only made us feel at ease, but was so clear and specific about what would be expected from me, my wife, himself and everyone else involved in settling my case. He educated us on potential issues (essentially warning us of the self-benefiting tactics employed by insurance companies and healthcare providers) and explained his role and the importance of legal knowledge during these encounters (By the way, all of which he warned did in fact happen and we felt fortunate to have him at our side.). Larry felt like a friend throughout the entire process and I could tell that he was truly passionate about doing what was RIGHT and guiding my case to an end result that was nothing shy of deserved. He always focused on doing what was best for me, and conducted himself, as well as his business, with full integrity regarding all parties involved. Larry was always available within a reasonable time to answer questions, update me and my wife on progress, or to simply listen to our concerns or calm our nerves. He kept us focused, and was always receptive to ideas, questions and concerns we had throughout the long process, and was honest with his thoughts, opinions and counsel. Larry's office staff was consistently professional and inviting to both me and my wife. The staff was always available for anything that did not require Larry's expertise, and was prompt in relaying messages that did require such knowledge, to ensure a quick response from Larry. I never felt "out of the loop," or side-barred, while working with Larry or his team. I was very satisfied with the final settlement, and just as pleased with Larry's take. Both my wife and I agree that the portion of the settlement Larry received was less than what was deserved. After notifying us of the final settlement amount, Larry, unbeknownst to us, continued his efforts and achieved a settlement that was actually significantly more than the amount we were initially told. My wife and I highly recommend Larry Knapp to anyone needing the help we did, or the help we didn't realize we needed! Larry is honest, proficient, passionate and professional. I'm sure it sounds cheesy but Larry is a lawyer who hasn't lost sight of why he became a lawyer; honest justice. Every once in a while you FINALLY find the perfect individual that provides a professional service with the expertise you need and of the quality you expect; Larry is that guy in the legal field. Now, anyone know a good mechanic?? :)

In 2014, I was involved in an accident at work which involved Worker’s Comp. After being released to go back to work I received a time sensitive document that me nor my family understood. My Worker’s Comp liaison nor my employer make themselves available to explain what the documents meant nor what I needed to do to protect me and my family. Searching the internet I found Lawrence Knapp Injury Attorney. Lawrence (Larry) made himself available, listened to my story and my concerns with the paperwork. Although he doesn’t handle Worker’s Comp claims he calmed me down, was able to provide information on the documentation and found a reputable attorney to take my case. In today’s environment I don’t think this kind of service happens with most businesses. Thanks Larry Knapp and your awesome staff.

I found him on the internet, and I decided to give him a call. During our first conversation on the phone, he told me what he would do for me. After my first visit at his office, he guided me through. Afterwards, he kept me updated regularly up until the day of the court hearing.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Stockton, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
