Excellent services and advice was provided. Leah was very professional and helpful throughout the whole court and legal process. She had great communication and was always keeping us updated on new developments on our case. Leah was also very responsive, answered all our questions, and worked hard for me and my case.

I retained Leah and Dan when my son unfortunately had a DUI. They were both kind, knowledgeable, thorough and personable. They truly care about their clients. In addition, they were always reachable for questions and support. I would highly recommend them if you have an unfortunate situation.

If you find yourself in need of an outstanding criminal defense attorney, look no further than Leah. I chose the one with all 5 star reviews with an office located across the street from the Van Nuys court house. I figured she might know people there which could be a good thing. When I called her with my issue, she was out of the office as her daughter was having a baby. I left a message (crying hysterically) on the voice mail. She called back within 10 minutes and kept me on the phone until I could get set up with immediate face to face help (with her partner in the office). I could literally hear a baby crying in the background. Maybe she was in the delivery room? So the baby and I were BOTH crying--me from the mess I got myself into, and the baby for more obvious reasons. I went in that same afternoon to speak with her legal partner, Mr. Melnick, and they immediately began to work on my case to ease my nerves. They are very good with anything psych related. She went to court--over and over again, without settling for anything less than a dismissal with some community service. This was no easy task as it was a very delicate, difficult, embarrassing, case which had to be presented with kid gloves. This lady knows how to seamlessly deal with the client, DA, and judge while developing rapport in a most sublime way. It would have been in her favor $ and time wise to settle (sooner) as she does not get paid extra money when this is drawn out as it was--but no, she really does care about the client, and drawing this out eventually helped to get this dismissed. I sweat bullets for months and I know it was not easy for her, either, but she is too kind to admit it. She is calm and cool, always maintaining a positive, professional demeanor. When I thanked her, she said, "No need, I love doing this sort of thing". The fact that she apparently has lots of children probably works in her favor (as well as the clients) since she understands all the complexities that one can have and how a mostly good person can get into a legal snafoo. She is anything but judgy. Lastly, Leah actually saved my life. I was ready to jump off the cliff at Universal Studios (although I would never admit to such a thing) because I literally saw no way out when I called her. How she knew this, I don't know. Why she would stay on the phone with me when she was on leave for the birth of her granddaughter is beyond me as well. That said, if you find yourself in a desperate situation, give this lady a call. She may even save your life as she did mine:)

Kevin & the entire DCD Law team are incredible! The amount of time and effort they all put in to help you from your first call to the end of their legal service/assistance is commendable and even though I knew how busy they were, I always felt like their #1 client. They are communicative and so reassuring which is so special and comforting. I was so nervous when I first called but I immediately felt safe, and that they truly cared. For someone who doesn’t work in a legal field, I never felt confused at the end of any conversation because they were all so good at explaining things without a lot of legal jargon that I didn’t understand. Kevin and his team were so on top of things, I was never left feeling like my case didn’t matter and I always knew what was going on as well as what they were doing to help me throughout my entire experience. I genuinely can’t thank DCD Law enough for their professionalism, their expertise, their genuine care, and all of their help. The sense of security I have felt, and the relief I feel today is something I will forever be grateful for. I highly recommend DCD Law to anyone and everyone who could use their services! Thank you DCD Law!!

Mr. Pinasco and his team did an amazing job. Unfortunately, I've been involved in 2 accidents where I was rear ended. The first time around, I went with one of those popular TV lawyers. The next time, I chose Mr. Pinasco, and I'm so happy I did. His team paid close attention to my case and I didn't have to call around finding the paralegal assigned to my case like I did with the the TV lawyer. In addition, Irving did an amazing job negotiating my bills to the point where I received a higher percentage of the settlement compared to my previous experience. I've already referred this team to a few close friends who were involved in an accident. Don't make a decision you'll regret!!! Call Mr. Pinasco and his team if you're involved in an accident!!!!

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Van Nuys, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
