An amazing attorney who handled my father’s case from start to finish, and exceeded what we thought would be possible . Extremely communicative, professional and is by far the best at what he does. There were times when the process was long and took its toll , but he ensured us that the end result would be worth it , and in the end it was. Thank you Mr Burgis & team for taking care of my father and his long and complicated case- he couldn’t be happier with the outcome!

First thing I learned over 20 years ago about being a professional driver is to try to get all citations reduced to non-moving violations. The idea is that you may get one that you can't get reduced and that could be the one that puts you over the limit regarding having a Taxi permit or even having your license suspended for too many points. Get them reduced when you can. It's worth the money if you want to stay in the Pro Driver business. I have used CDL Legal via OOIDA since obtaining a CDL over 20 years ago. They have produced the results I needed every time. I haven't had many citations however I always try to get them reduced no matter how many I have over the years. Thank you Wiley Ramey! You did a great job.

Called Mr. Melnick, He explained everything to me, what my next steps were and assisted me with the whole legal process. I can't say enough about how honest and upfront he was with me and was very professional the whole time! 10/10 would recommend to anyone. no need to shop around, money well spent!

Dan handled my felony case with exceptional care and effectiveness. For my case, Dan performed really well at key inflection points, often showing creativity and thoroughness in his arguments. I was left feeling that I had just the right attorney for my situation, and the fact that Dan is highly respected by judges as honest and ethical, played into my very successful result. I can't recommend him highly enough.

I came to Dan a few times and I want to say it was the best decision I've made. He was very straightforward with me and the best part is the many years of experience he has. He was able to pretty much guess the outcome of my case from just our first consultation. He's a great guy and very easy going and caring!

First and foremost thank you David for making my experience through all the legal proceedings flow smoothly and convenient for me as a client. If you are looking for a great DUI Attorney, David will go the lengths and dedicate his time to your case, you have come to the right place. David not only represented me a professional way, but took my case personal and it showed in the final Dismissal resolution of my DUI. If I was able to give 10 stars I would! Thank you David

From the beginning of my experience with David, he has delivered on his promises. I was cited for a DUI. He told me he knew everyone including the DA's at Van Nuys court from his decades of experience; it was amusing but true. David referred me to Anthony Scott for my DMV hearing and with his expertise, the DMV set aside my license suspension. David ensured me that this favorable result and his expertise would strengthen my case. Two months later, my DUI charge was dismissed to an ex. speed plea! I prayed such a significant reduction, and with David's magic, it became a reality. If you're in need of a DUI criminal defense attorney, look no further.

If you find yourself in need of an outstanding criminal defense attorney, look no further than Leah. I chose the one with all 5 star reviews with an office located across the street from the Van Nuys court house. I figured she might know people there which could be a good thing. When I called her with my issue, she was out of the office as her daughter was having a baby. I left a message (crying hysterically) on the voice mail. She called back within 10 minutes and kept me on the phone until I could get set up with immediate face to face help (with her partner in the office). I could literally hear a baby crying in the background. Maybe she was in the delivery room? So the baby and I were BOTH crying--me from the mess I got myself into, and the baby for more obvious reasons. I went in that same afternoon to speak with her legal partner, Mr. Melnick, and they immediately began to work on my case to ease my nerves. They are very good with anything psych related. She went to court--over and over again, without settling for anything less than a dismissal with some community service. This was no easy task as it was a very delicate, difficult, embarrassing, case which had to be presented with kid gloves. This lady knows how to seamlessly deal with the client, DA, and judge while developing rapport in a most sublime way. It would have been in her favor $ and time wise to settle (sooner) as she does not get paid extra money when this is drawn out as it was--but no, she really does care about the client, and drawing this out eventually helped to get this dismissed. I sweat bullets for months and I know it was not easy for her, either, but she is too kind to admit it. She is calm and cool, always maintaining a positive, professional demeanor. When I thanked her, she said, "No need, I love doing this sort of thing". The fact that she apparently has lots of children probably works in her favor (as well as the clients) since she understands all the complexities that one can have and how a mostly good person can get into a legal snafoo. She is anything but judgy. Lastly, Leah actually saved my life. I was ready to jump off the cliff at Universal Studios (although I would never admit to such a thing) because I literally saw no way out when I called her. How she knew this, I don't know. Why she would stay on the phone with me when she was on leave for the birth of her granddaughter is beyond me as well. That said, if you find yourself in a desperate situation, give this lady a call. She may even save your life as she did mine:)

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Van Nuys, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
