The business I work for had an account assigned to OLIVIA PALOMARES. We agreed on a payment plan and made the first two payments as scheduled. I received an email both months with aggressive undertones tell me to pay the debt. I had to respond twice to tell her we were ALREADY on a payment plan with her and that one more threatening email and I would stop payment. We stopped payment on the third month when the third email came in. In the past I used my personal cell phone for work. The company is now closed and when I told her she was calling my personal number and can email the company she start rapidly repeating "Are you going to return my email?!" Not allowing my to explain further. This kind of behavior towards a person who is not personally responsible for the debt in collections is completely unacceptable. She should be the most professional person if she is being entrusted to represent your company with OTHER COMPANIES. Our company used debt collectors too, and I am sure there will be companies in my future who will also use debt collections companies. I will be 1000% sure to mention the poor unprofessional behavior of your representative.

I’ve asked Caine & Weiner for debt verification letter they said they can only give me the bill. I said no you have to give me the written authorization showing that you have the legal right to collect for the debt and they have told me I don’t have the right to see that I’ve asked for the letter showing that the creditor Legal authority to collect on the step

Because of MY very bad decision, I wound up with a collection item and Caine & Weiner handled it for the creditor (because of many bad decisions, I wound up with a bunch of collection items). In talking with these various agents, some proved themselves to reflect the sad reputation of bill collectors, but my experience with their firm was the exact opposite. I was helped by Leslie and I felt like she knew what I was going through but was patient with me and showed understanding. After it all, she made the process of taking care of the debt much easier than the other collectors did and certainly didn't have any sort of take it or leave it attitude. She was a pleasure to work with, and deserves to have a great 4th of July!

I went to the Law Offices of Roman P. Mosqueda last October 2014 to petition my children and wife. My case was complicated. I did the petition for my children and wife by myself and with no knowledge filled out the forms incorrectly. I was frustrated and stressed because immigration was sending me letters which I didn’t understand. I decided to seek the help of Mr. Mosqueda. When I first met Atty. Mosqueda he was very patient and courteous as well as his assistant Crystal. Crystal went above and beyond to help me with my ignorance with immigration. Within four months my family got an interview and is now residing with me which was a dream come true. Therefore, I would like to commend Atty. Mosqueda and all the staff for their help specially Crystal. God bless them for their kindness and patience.

I cannot recommend Lior enough!!!! I had a personal injury case that I had given to an attorney who completely neglected my case until about 3 months before the statute of limitations date. I had given up and figured that I wouldn’t push to settle my case and almost let the case go until a friend of mine introduced me to Lior. He literally salvaged and saved my case right away and settled it within a month!!!!! I truly can’t thank him enough for his attentiveness and being so on top of it all.

Garrett is absolutely an impressive attorney. I had a case that would jeopardize my life and defended me aggressively from day 1. Upon meeting him, his presence said it all. He's the best at what he does. I am extremely grateful for winning my case that lasted months. I will definitely recommend him.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Van Nuys, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
