Caveat: have not retained Ms.Axt at this time, so the review speaks to the interaction we did have. My wife consulted with Ms. Axt, and came away from that conversation buoyed & more confident, armed with pointed questions and firm reassurances. Today, we had another meeting with the school… and their compliance was total. Ms Axt contacted us to follow up, and I was able to speak with her directly. Sabrina’s first practice is to find delight in the unusual, even when surprised - which makes her a great person to speak for those who don’t necessarily fit in, we think. If you're working with a school that keeps telling your kid to do more instead of meeting them where they are and building from there, set up a consultation with Sabrina. Her intricate understanding of the ins and outs of special education law empowered us to show up to my daughter's IEP with new knowledge and confidence. The school now understands that I know what they are required by law to do. The wanted to start with everything as normal and inch their way down from there to meet my kid where she is, which is a waste of precious time and not healthy for my child, as she felt completely defeated and hopeless when she kept not being able to meet their benchmarks. After writing an email informing the school that I had met with a special education attorney and advocate, requesting a specific test that Sabrina recommended, and making it clear I wouldn't hesitate to engage her services further if required, they changed their approach completely. After yesterday's IEP, we now have a workable plan that my daughter is, for the very first time, excited to try! I couldn't be more grateful. Sabrina is also incredibly supportive and understanding. I was meeting her over zoom at my work and we had a gas leak part way through and had to evacuate. She emailed immediately to reschedule, and when we talked again a couple of days later, she had been thinking about my case and had even more suggestions. It happened to be after our IEP meeting so he got to share the good news. She was thrilled and shared in our celebration. I was involved in an incident on my property with my neighbor who injured himself and decided to have me charged with criminal battery. I was first served with a civil suit for a restraining order. I was referred to Thomas Daly and after meeting with Mr. Daly I retained his services to represent me in the restraining order case. The case turned criminal when the assault and battery charges were levied against me. Mr. Daly didn't miss a beat. He changed gears and started preparing a solid defense strategy. Due to Covid and other delays we are going into our third year of fighting this. So my case remains unresolved at the time of this review. I was a victim of police misconduct. It was the time when COVID19 just hit the US, everything was shutting down, there was nothing going on, the police officers were bored. The Clayton PD I ran across knew they were a whole bunch of cowboys, they did not do their due diligence, pulled a search warrant thinking they were heroes to save Clayton, and that they got something. Turn out there were no heroes but zeros. In order to 'save their faces, they nit-picked whatever they saw in my house, like child endangerment because I did not lock up the cannabis I use in the drawer. Made-up stories so they did not look as stupid. I was in shock, the lead officer told me in person that there was no crime in front of my face, but when he returned back to the office, he wrote a report to charge me for child endangerment. That was how I got to know Thomas Daily, he was a great lawyer, he explained to me that this was, unfortunately, our messed up legal justice system.He helped me greatly, I cannot thank him anymore. If you are a victim of police misconduct or set up by the police, you have to come to Thomas Daily. You will be glad that you did.
