If there was an option to rate Dave Singh from Succession Legal lower than one star, it would be more than justified based on my utterly disappointing experience. From the outset, Dave and his firm's handling of our probate case have been fraught with miscommunication, broken promises, and a sheer lack of professionalism that has exacerbated an already difficult process.
Initially, we were misled about the estate valuation process. Despite having an appraisal valuing the property at $900k, following my father's death during a home remodel, the estate was inexplicably valued over $1.45m, a figure that bafflingly ignores the condition of the property at the time of death. Dave's explanation of valuation based on equity rather than appraisal led to a profound misunderstanding and substantial financial repercussions.
Further, Dave Singh's advice led us to believe that the duration of the probate process would not affect the valuation of our property, a statement that proved grossly inaccurate and cost us over $20,000 more than anticipated. This financial shock was compounded by Dave's decision to send an invoice directly to our escrow officer without prior consultation, a move that not only blindsided us but also solidified our decision to sever ties with his services.
Throughout this ordeal, our access to critical information and necessary resources, such as the probate referee, was inexplicably withheld until it was too late to make informed decisions. Additionally, the firm's handling of our financial obligations was haphazard at best, exemplified by a surprise $3700 bill from the county assessor—a bill that could have been mitigated had the firm been proactive in its communications with us.
The lack of transparency extended to the firm's invoicing practices as well. Despite meticulous tracking of minor expenses, there was a glaring absence of accountability for the hours spent on our case. This discrepancy raises serious questions about the firm's fiscal responsibility and the value of the services provided.
Moreover, Dave's insistence on payment for unfinished work, despite the clear absence of any contractual obligation to do so at this stage, has added unnecessary stress to an already strained situation. This approach not only reflects poorly on his professional integrity but also on his understanding of client care and the ethical responsibilities of a legal practitioner.
In conclusion, our experience with Dave Singh and Succession Legal has been nothing short of a nightmare. The firm's failure to adhere to agreed-upon terms, coupled with a pattern of miscommunication and negligence, has not only resulted in significant financial loss but also in immense emotional distress for my family and me. The decision to seek alternative representation and to hold Dave accountable for his actions is not taken lightly, but it is a necessary step to ensure the fair and competent resolution of our probate case.
Avoid at all costs.
