Highly knowledgeable and effective in handling legal cases
“David is not only extremely knowledgeable in various aspects of law but is also efficient, clever and effective in handling my case.”
2
Provides excellent communication and emotional support
“David is readily available when I have questions about items I do not understand along with offering emotional support when things seem overwhelming.”
3
Achieves favorable and timely settlements
“Once Mr. Seal filed the suits the first party offered a fair and reasonable settlement within weeks. The second case took a little more effort and he was able to get a fair and reasonable settlement without going to trial.”
4
Represents clients diligently and effectively
“I remember thinking that I was glad I was not in the hot seat on the other side of the table that David turned it into. I was very well satisfied with the outcome of my case due to Davids diligence.”
5
Provides reassurance and answers questions for clients
“The legal system can be a spooky place for someone like me who is not familiar with it so it was great to have Dave give me reassurance, answered all of my questions when I had them and brought it all to a successful conclusion.”
Cons
1
Can be rude and dismissive with potential clients
“He isn't my 1st attorney to consult this case, however, the questions he asked aren't really similar to other attorneys. so while I described the case in a nutshell, he constantly asked if there was an escrow etc. I told him i found him since he answered a similar question on avo.com that he can do fixed to contingency plan. He said he wouldn't believe that he said that. He was basically saying i'm lying. So I said, your review isn't solid 5 star, i wouldn't have reached out to you if you didn't answer that. He immediately counter back and said . he isn't interested.”
2
May not follow through on promised services or provide timely updates
“After the retainer agreement was signed and the $3,500 retainer check was cashed, I did not hear back from attorney Seal. I tried calling and emailing him but he is always busy working on other cases, personal health issues, and holiday vacation.”

I reached out to David to consult a real estate case and he was quite rude. I called him at the morning and he told me i can call back 6:30pm. I finally connected him at 6:50pm. He isn’t my 1st attorney to consult this case, however, the questions he asked aren’t really similar to other attorneys. so while I described the case in a nutshell, he constantly asked if there was an escrow etc. I thought I disclosed that when I started, since that’s the beginning of contract and also this dispute. I told him i found him since he answered a similar question on avo.com that he can do fixed to contingency plan. He said he wouldn’t believe that he said that. He was basically saying i’m lying. So I said, your review isn’t solid 5 star, i wouldn’t have reached out to you if you didn’t answer that. He immediately counter back and said . he isn’t interested. Overall, I think his attitude is really problematic. And if you think i’m one of those uneasy to work with, just check my reviews left for attorney. His style is very rude and “you listen” or we don’t talk.

I am a victim in a very serious, complicated case involving monetary fraud. I found Attorney David Seal in a random search on Avvo and landed myself the absolute best attorney that I could have possibly found. David is not only extremely knowledgeable in various aspects of law but is also efficient, clever and effective in handling my case. David is readily available when I have questions about items I do not understand along with offering emotional support when things seem overwhelming. I highly recommend David Seal for any legal issues one may have and know that, if needed, I would not think of hiring anyone else. Kelly Lhotak

I've worked with many lawyers through the years for work and can say Mr. Seal was one of the best I've worked with. We had two traffic collisions with company vehicles and the other parties refused to respond to us. Once Mr. Seal filed the suits the first party offered a fair and reasonable settlement within weeks. The second case took a little more effort and he was able to get a fair and reasonable settlement without going to trial. I would not hesitate to work with Mr. Seal again in the future.

I utilized David Seal in 2013 to represent me on a civil case involving a neighbor whose trees had encroached onto my property (causing foundation and other structural damage). His efforts resulted in a successful outcome as the compromising tree was eventually removed; eliminating further structural damage to my home. Owning apartment buildings, I have worked with many attorneys over the years, This is truly the first time I could say that my attorney was both honest, and putting me above all. David's expertise and tenacity caused the eventual resolution with my neighbor. It was an unfortunate situation that was not being taken seriously by the other party. However, his knowledge of the law and how it applied to my case was invaluable, and a direct cause of our success.

David was my lawyer on a case that lasted almost four years. He did everything possible to keep the costs down and not waste time and money. As my case started he insisted that every time I made a statement that he was going to use in the trial, I had to have the documentation to back it up. He was extremely diligent with his approach, knowledge and understanding of the facts that he was presenting. He made sure that I took an active part in the proceedings of the trial, by explaining what was going on, what happened and what was his future approach he was going to take. I trusted him completely, he was aggressive when he had to be, communicated well, and his approach to changing situations was amazing. I would highly recommend him to be your attorney. He will give you his best at all times. You can trust him whether he is defending you or you are the plaintiff. You cannot good wrong if you are looking for an honest, forthcoming, aggressive and upright attorney. He is the best.

Your choice of a lawyer makes all the difference in how you feel about the experience and can impact the outcome. From my first interaction, I knew Karen was highly knowledgeable, would treat me as a valued client and not just another case in the queue, and was an empathetic professional. Besides knowing bankruptcy law, she is an expert communicator. She breaks down what can seem like an overwhelming complex process into manageable parts. She explains the overall process and timelines, presents transparent fees, provides worksheets to help you gather the needed information, meets with you (in person or via Zoom) at appropriate points, answers your questions, and identifies any potential areas that need further clarification. She utilizes specialized software and a secure client portal to keep you organized and the process effective and efficient. She prepares you for your hearing with the court’s Trustee; not every lawyer does this or does it as well. She also understands the roller coaster of emotions that filing for bankruptcy takes you on. She is patient, a good listener, and gives you the confidence that you will come out the other side just fine. I did. Choose the Law Offices of Karen Ware to represent you, and I bet you will come out the other side just fine, too.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Westlake Village, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
