I've had so many lawyers represent me on a case that has been ongoing since 2013. The list included some of Colorado's best and most expensive lawyers. While some performed well, Hillary's level of dedication is unmatched. Hillary has shown exceptional levels of diligence on my case. Having worked with so many lawyers prior to meeting Hillary, I've learned to appreciate her excellence. She genuinely cares about her clients. In our most recent appearance her extensive research and preparation was obvious to experts, witnesses, myself and most likely the judge and the DA as well. With faith and a lawyer like Hillary victory is close. I am grateful and glad that I hired her. She will be your eyes and ears and will put a lot of her heart and soul into your case as she truly wants to see her clients succeed.

This was the first time I ever had need of an attorney. I was referred to “Hillary” by a friend of mine who knew her from law school. Atty. Aizenman was quick to return my call and after a brief chat we set up an in person meeting. I knew immediately that I was in good hands. I hired Hillary on the spot. She put me at ease with the confident manner in which she presented the ins and outs of court and did her best to calm my anxiety.

A false accusation is terrifying. You might think you can just explain the truth and that's enough, but no, you truly need legal representation right away. Hillary is a top criminal defense attorney. I was grateful to have her on my side through the nightmare. She assertively advocated for my rights. Her experience and expertise proved beneficial at every turn, including her understanding of unique local dynamics that informed the context of my case. She is a true professional. It's hard to describe the relief I felt when Hillary called me and said the charge had been dismissed. Thank you!

Pros
1
Skilled and experienced attorneys who fight hard for their clients
“Alison pulled out all of the stops when it came to making citations, motions and going toe-to-toe with the DA.”
2
Compassionate and understanding approach to clients
“The entire experience has been extremely difficult and you have to put your faith in someone else. It took over a year for my case to get dismissed and I know how difficult this kind of experience can be. I wouldn't recommend the Polansky Law Firm if I didn't believe in them.”
3
Successful track record of getting positive outcomes for clients
“She was able to prove my husband's 2001 guilty plea was unconstitutional and because of that my husband, now has a second chance to stay in the united states with his family.”
4
Responsive and communicative with clients
“Alison was always straightforward, kind, informative and quick to respond when we corresponded during the case.”
5
Willing to work with clients on financial arrangements
“When I was having major financial issues resulting from COVID, Polansky Law Firm always believed in my case and went above and beyond to work with me financially so that I could take my case to trial.”
Cons
1
Lack of transparency and predictability around legal fees
“The only problems I faced with my case was just the unpredictability of the cost of using Polansky, It would be nice to have it more laid out and predictable so that I can have an expectation on what I'm going to have to pay.”
2
Inconsistent quality of service across different attorneys
“We contacted the firm by telephone from out of state on a Saturday and were able to speak with Alison within less than 24 hours. This step was very easy and friendly. Alison was just great throughout the whole process with great communication and clear explanations. She was very responsive, prepared, efficient and effective. Alison was successful in all respect with the matter at hand and we are extremely pleased with the experience.”

Scott was able to take my case from out of state last minute. I live in Texas and the case was in Colorado. He saved the day by performing a hail mary and printing a Texas order at the very last minute to that I could serve my wife the Texas orders. He went and printed it off last minute with no question. His use of words and knowledge of the law allowed us to get the Colorado case vacated. He was very communicative and took calls I know he didn't have to take. Truly cares for his work and his clients. Allowed me to suggest certain exhibits that he didn't think was necessary to be published in court to make me comfortable. Truly a hard working lawyer.

Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Boulder, Colorado?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
