I was Care's paralegal for years and it was one of the most exciting and valuable learning experiences of my life. Care is a former Boulder County judge and district attorney, and her knowledge of criminal and family law is unmatched. She also brings a warmth and sense of humor to the sometimes difficult job and cases that she works on that gives comfort to clients going through a very hard time. Being involved in a criminal and/or family law case is an extremely difficult experience, and knowing that you have a kind, hard-working attorney who knows the law better than anyone on your side is the best solace. As her paralegal, I was able to learn by instruction and observation (and osmosis!) the rules and regulations governing our legal system and gained great respect for those working at all levels of the agencies involved. I felt prepared for a diversity of career options after working for Care and enjoyed working for her on a personal level as well. Care is the best!

I cannot even put into words how impressed, grateful and appreciative I am of Care and Jake at The Law Office of Care Enichen. I found myself in an unusual situation with the law. Never having any type of altercation with the justice system or law enforcement myself, I was at a loss, confused and worried. I found Care on Google and was so impressed with her extensive experience and knowledge with Boulder County laws and court proceedings. Her knowledge stems from a prosecuting attorney to a judge for Boulder County and now as a criminal defense attorney. What I was not expecting, was to meet two people who are generally concerned for your well-being. In Care and Jake, I found not only two people so competent in navigating the justice system but also two people who only had the very best intentions on my part. They concluded my case quickly and efficiently within a very reasonable cost and I am so pleased with the result. Thank you Care and Jake! I am forever in your debt.

I came to Care with a legal issue and some confusion about my standing in the law. I consulted a couple other attorneys, over a couple years as I approached this life event. These consultations never cleared up, for me, where I stood in the law. In short order, Care assured me that where I stood was on firm legal footing and that my issue would be resolved. Working with Care was a pleasure. As she got to know me and my case, thoroughly, I was assured that she understood details of where I had been over many years. She also worked hard on getting resolution against quite difficult opposing attorneys. My issue was solved to my complete satisfaction. I recommend Care Enichen wholeheartedly and with no reservation.

The fight night one could win! I have never been in trouble in my life before, so when I was accused of a crime I contacted the only lawyer I knew. He told me that it didn't matter what the truth was, what I said, or what the evidence showed. No one would ever believe me. I started looking for a new one, and I went to several, and they all said the same thing, I'd never win until I meet Care. I told her what happened, and she said she believed me. It took 20 months of hard work, but she found every lie they told, every piece of evidence they lost or omitted or just didn't bother to investigate. After 20 months of digging and work, I was proven innocent. After 20 months, Care won the fight everyone else said could not be won. Without Care and her team my family and I would still be suffering because of a lie someone else told.

Care Enichen and paralegal Gabby Vermeire were exceptional in defending my case. It all started with Gabby whom I will forever be thankful. She is a true heart felt spirit. This dynamic duo worked tirelessly on my behalf for 2 years. With many difficulties they calmly stayed on course. Care has a vibrant personality and is confident and at home in the courtroom. A true boss lady! She really went above and beyond to understand my case. and we prevailed. They deserve more than 5 stars!

David has done several business and real estate related projects for us and is great to work with. He's always been patient, explaining the legalize that we don't get right away. Very detail oriented, knowledgeable. Added bonus is that he can suggest what is best to cover/address from his experience in personal injury. Highly recommend.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Boulder, Colorado?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
