The legal system is a daunting and truly scary realm for most, but for those of us that live a law abiding life - ignorance can be detrimental when you find yourself a victim of false allegations. John is more than a lawyer, he is a counselor of the law, who focuses on the individual client and expects that you (the expert in your own life) take charge of your case with his guidance and thus fight alongside him and not just hide behind him. From the initial meeting, John showed me professionalism, respect and ethical behavior. These standards were prevalent throughout the handling of my case. Dedication is a very powerful word, but cannot truly describe John's targeted focus and tenacity. While I had never dealt with a lawyer before, I did call many who instead of offering their support via guidance of the law, belittled and terrified me. John was real, and from the beginning set high, but tangible expectations of what it takes to win or prove a case. He dedicated his life to me during the every step of the preparation of my case. He spent over 10 hours of his day with me prior to trial and was prepared for whatever came our way. I would highly recommend John to anyone seeking help in the most important decisions of your life. Do not place your trust or invest your money on just anyone, call him and get his guidance, you'll know right away that you can feel confident with him as an experienced attorney. His trial assistant Megan is a superb asset to his firm and like John fully involves herself in every case, at least this was true of mine. John is a high caliber attorney with true emotions and treats you like a real human...did I mention he won my case!

I met with several attorneys prior to selecting John Pineau. John was by far the most understanding, straight forward and non-judgmental of them all. My case was very uncommon and a difficult one to take on. John was with me every step of the process and we worked for over three years on my case! The way John prepares for each hearing is absolutely incredible, he leaves no angle unthought-of. I felt confident at every hearing knowing that we were always 10 steps ahead of the prosecutor. He is the most determined, intelligent, hardworking and logical person I have ever met. He WILL do everything he can to help you. I understand the nightmare you are more than likely facing right now. I want you to know you don’t have to take this all on alone. John will help give you the confidence and determination to stand up and fight for what is right. I can honestly say that John and his team genuinely cared about me, gave me hope when I thought all hope was lost and in the end, we achieved our goal of saving my life. What else can you ask for? Don’t waste your time and money on anyone else! My heart goes out to all who have been wrongfully accused and have become victims of our judicial system. Please, allow John to help you fight back!

John Pineau is one of the best advocates for a client I have experienced in my legal career. There is no case too simple or none too complex for his representation. John does his homework and approaches every stage of the proceedings prepared and ready to do battle for his client. His experience ranges from first degree murder cases to sex assault cases. He is one of the best I have seen when it comes to defending persons accused of any type sex offense. He is non-judgemental and will work every case with the effective representation every person accused deserves. When you choose John Pineau you have an advocate who gets to know you, cares about you and will go to bat for you. I have worked with some of the best and John Pineau ranks up there with all of them. With John K. Pineau you get your moneys worth and then some!!

Stacy is an amazing attorney. She worked tirelessly for me for almost 2 years to get the results I needed from my ex. Her knowledge of the law seemed to be unending. She was always well prepared and very confident. She blew the other attorney out of the water. Stacy is very smart and compassionate and was always there to empower me. I can't begin to express how grateful I am to her. She will work hard for anyone.

Stacy Margolin is hands down one of the smartest attorneys in Colorado and her dedication to advocating for her clients is impressive. She is also a highly skilled mediator with arbitration background as well. Without her I would have been up the creek without the paddle. I recommend her highly over other lawyers and she even helped when big fancy firms were stuck. She is brave and will not back down. She fights for truth with all her might.

I had interviewed 4 attorneys in Boulder and was not happy with any of them on my child custody case. He actually listen to me an gave me great advice and put my mind at ease. He also gave me guidance on how to complete and find forms. Covered what my rights were and was willing to go the extra mile for me and my son.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Boulder, Colorado?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
