During a very difficult time for my family, Aaron Barrick and his team took care of my matter in the most efficient and effective way possible. Mr. Barrick was very responsive and competent when answering questions and explaining how they could help. Mr. Barrick is not only extremely professional and knowledgeable, but he is also very personal and intentional. I recommend Mr. Barrick and his firm to anyone looking for an attorney who is exceedingly competent and truly caring.

I contracted with Aaron Barrick to serve as my counsel to fight against a fabricated mechanics lien and also to draft a contract with a new builder. Mr. Barrick was able to get opposing counsel to release the lien. He also helped me navigate through rough waters with a steady hand and a kind heart after my first contractor left my house project in disarray. Mr. Barrick's understanding of construction law from both sides as a contractor and as a home owner was key to resolving my case successfully.

Aaron Barrick is a savvy, experienced, effective, efficient, honest attorney. He does not waste time with issues that don’t or won’t affect the ultimate outcome of the matter for which he has undertaken client representation. He keeps his eye on client resources as if they were his own and bills fairly. His support staff members at FFB&P are also experienced and, like Aaron, timely respond to telephone calls, questions and requests for copies of documents even if peripheral to the main issue at hand. He also knows his way around the courtroom and has experience on both sides of the bench. Aaron is a skilled negotiator and understands the need to be prepared and meet deadlines, a benefit, I believe, of his Air Force service and training. I have dealt with many attorneys in my business career and find Aaron and his firm to be among the best. I have referred others, both friends and business associates, to him and his firm and will seek his counsel and advice in the future when I, or my business interests, require legal assistance.

Aaron and all of his staff did a tremendous job for us in bringing a long fought case to a pleasant conclusion. I would work him again at any point. Thank you.

Aaron did not follow through on my dispute. He dropped the ball and left me hanging. We were in the middle of litigation, and due to his negligence, I was left in a huge bind. Seriously, he is not helpful.

Kathryn helped me deal with my mother's estate when she passed unexpectedly. She helped and walked me through all the steps and options. Additionally, she went well above and beyond to help me fight to settle and close accounts. She kept the estate proceedings moving forward and on track. I don't think I would have been able to handle the process without her!

Kathryn is an exception resource when it comes to tenant law. We used her as a consultant for a very unfortunate lease situation. She was professional, informative and helpful to get a resolution. I appreciated her timeliness and explanation to help those of us who don't practice law. I would highly recommend her.

I had picked Mr. Husson out of a few others on a list that was sent to me from MetLife Law services. Needing to get a Will executed, I thought that the closest lawyer to me would be beneficial. That was a bit of a hiccup, because Mr. Husson works from his home, which is not the address I had on the list. All in all, he and his assistant came to MY home to get the final papers signed. That was kind of a bonus! Regardless of any misunderstandings, Mr. Husson and his assistant had gone above and beyond with the papers that they drew up for me and the processes that they gave me direction to follow through on. After everything was satisfied in the terms of what I had requested, I have to give him an excellent rating not only for his knowledge on this subject but for the overall execution of the paperwork involved.

John created estate documents for us, and was very patient and took time to explain the whole process and details/tradeoffs about each document (without driving up billing.) He even agreed to take up a 2nd issue (name change) that he doesn't normally cover, yet he was very familiar with the process and carefully shepherded the process through the courts to successful conclusion. It was like having a very close & knowledgeable friend work these issues for us, knowing he had our best interests at heart - so comfortable working with him. Couldn't recommend enough!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Castle Rock, Colorado?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
