Michael Kossen is hands down the best. From the first day I called him to 11 months later he has been the most professional, attentive, and didn’t make me feel like I was just another case. He helped me through absolutely everything as I was so clueless through the whole thing. I can’t say more good things about him. So glad I chose him and had him to keep me calm and sane during the worst year of my life. He goes above and beyond for his clients!

Mike is so professional, detailed, thorough, kind, and truly top notch! He helped me with a matter that happened years ago, and that matter caused me serious stress and extreme insecurity. He erased the stress and insecurity for me, and allowed me to start fresh. I highly recommend him for anyone wanting help sealing a record. He is affordable, straight up, and mostly, profound with his communication and updates. I'll never forget him, or what he helped me accomplish. Thank you so much Mike! You are truly my hero and I can't thank you enough!

Above & beyond...is the best way to describe Michael. From our very first point of contact, Michael was engaged & focused. I never felt like "just another case number" along the way. Michael had us VERY prepared on the day we went to court, & our outcome was exactly what I was wanting - case dismissed! I've never really been a big fan of attorneys, but Michael showed my family & I that if you find the right one, you can acquire a great attorney, as well as a guy that really goes to work for you & your best interest. I would absolutely recommend Michael! He's a cool guy too. 😀🤘

A former partner of his, who I was still working with, referred me to Charles Kinne. Our company had a lawsuit files against us by a competitor who had been trying to cause us as much damage as possible for years. This was the second lawsuit filed against us by this same company. I told my IP attorney I needed someone that could put an end to all of this harassment and get us in a position to operate freely. Without the constant surveillance and setups, threatening letters and unfairly restrictive terms and unreasonable interpretations of the previous lawsuit's settlement agreement. After ten years of this I needed an end to it. Knowing our history and Charlie's strong litigation abilities he referred me to him right away. Charlie had his work cut out for him since the competitor and the lawyers that represented them were equally matched for unscrupulous and nonsensical behavior. You couldn’t imagine all the tactics that were used to cause fear, confusion and drag out the process by the plaintiffs. It was daunting and I’m very glad I had Charlie Kinne on my side. Our case was continuously evolving and required a lot of resources including managing investigative work, witnesses on three continents, ever changing testimonies and much more. We were trying to deal with an adversary who wasn’t looking for a reasonable outcome. Litigation and intimidation was a part of their business model. Charlie demanded the best from my team and I and he gave us his best without any question in my mind. When it came to the courtroom he was champion and a pleasure to watch. He’s passionate about his work and his clients. He prepared us for trial. He had made himself intimately familiar with every detail of the few years prior and created several strategies he would use as the courtroom landscape revealed itself. The plaintiff’s assembly of lawyers and witnesses were systematically unraveled. It was wonderful. I never had the feeling that my case wasn’t his highest priority. He wasn’t out to deal with the case and wrap it up. He promised me that he’d fix it so I’m free of the harassment and will be able operate without any threat from that competitor or the unreasonable terms of the previous settlement. He lived up to that promise and the outcome was much more than I hoped for. Without any hesitation whatsoever I recommend and would hire again, Charles Kinne.

Kathryn helped me deal with my mother's estate when she passed unexpectedly. She helped and walked me through all the steps and options. Additionally, she went well above and beyond to help me fight to settle and close accounts. She kept the estate proceedings moving forward and on track. I don't think I would have been able to handle the process without her!

Kathryn is an exception resource when it comes to tenant law. We used her as a consultant for a very unfortunate lease situation. She was professional, informative and helpful to get a resolution. I appreciated her timeliness and explanation to help those of us who don't practice law. I would highly recommend her.

Hannah Paille is an incredible attorney. She always put my child’s safety and best interests first throughout a very tough and long divorce process. Hannah and the entire staff at the office were always kind, helpful, responsive, and professional. I always felt I could trust them every step of the way. I have already referred several people to Hannah and the K&G firm.

  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Castle Rock, Colorado?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
