Mrs. Perry is the most professional and knowledgable lawyer I have known. She was recommended to me by a board member of our community. Lisa took the reins on one of the most difficult situations of my life, and easily guided me through the legal process of going through a divorce. She managed my case with the upmost professionalism and took an almost unbearable stress off my shoulders. I would highly recommend her services and you will feel privileged to know Lisa R. Perry, I do.

I first hired Lisa more than 6 years ago to handle a child custody case. As a male I knew that the courts/law was weighted against me from the start. As anyone that has gone through a child custody case knows it is never truly over. Over the last 6 years Lisa has been as strong of an ally as I could possibly have had. She has fought for my rights and the welfare of my son with a tenacity that I did not know existed. She always has the best interest of me and my son in mind. She has even advised against some actions I wanted to take because she did not think it would be best for him. Lisa is always available to talk to and I trust her opinions completely. Unlike other attorneys I have worked with her billing practices are more than fair and I might even say lean towards the favor of the client. I recommend Lisa in the strongest way possible. If you are in or heading into a child custody case Lisa is the person you want on your side!

I went through a 2 year divorce ( the worst ordeal of my life) and Lisa was absolutely fantastic! She was the most knowledge and trustworthy attorney I have ever encountered. She kept me informed, was honest, and was trustworthy in every regard. She was more like a mother to me and through her ethical guidance I was able to navigate through things and came out a winner and with a clear conscience. She met EVERY date and deadline in my saga. Even when we were attacked by the other side, her responses were smart and strategic. She was a shoulder to cry on when horrible details came out regarding my Ex-wife and she kept me strong when the situation called for it. She protected me and my possessions at all times. At the core, my son's best interests were always the top priority. I can honestly say I would not have gotten through my divorce without her. I have recommended her to my closest friends and will continue to do so without hesitation. I am proud to know her and now call her more than a lawyer...she's a true friend.

Lisa was referred to me by my corporate counsel as the strongest family law attorney she knew. I needed her because I was going against someone who had powerful friends in powerful places in the law enforcement community. Even though many tricks were attempted to thwart my good name, none of them succeeded in the end because Lisa tenaciously defended me and my reputation, literally day and night until we won. I highly recommend her and have sent three other friends to her who enjoyed the same kind of success. Lisa is greatly respected in our courts and unstoppable when someone is wronged.

I came to Lisa after my previous attorney seemed to be incompetent on how to deal with family law, the needs for my kids, and myself. She listened to the facts, looked through all my documentation and was very straight forward as to what the courts will allow and what they won't. She walked me through the entire process of what we could request of the court in order to limit parenting time from my ex due to his addiction issues. Lisa has been a heaven sent for myself & children as she put together an amazing custody stipulation that has alleviated all the non-sense my ex husband use to put me through. The new custody stipulation holds my ex accountable for his continual bad choices and now my kids are in a safe environment because of it. Lisa seeks justice for the "good guys" in need of representation and help with family issues.

Bill is an excellent attorney who helped me through a high-conflict divorce with his strategic and calm approach. He is very patient and thinks before he reacts. He never leaves you guessing and openly shares information he receives from the other attorney's involved. One thing that I really liked about Bill is that throughout my entire case I always understood what the worst case scenario could be. He never once mislead me to believe we would win the case or any given dispute would be in my favor. I valued his transparency. He knows what he is doing when it comes to family law. I would certainly recommend him to any of my friends or family that are going through a difficult divorce.

Bill was a great help and resource after my divorce as my ex-wife wanted to fight me on everything for our son. He takes his time to make sure he has every resource available for him to review and makes sure he helps make the right choice in your case. This case was a long one and Bill kept me update on any communications that came from the other attorney. We always worked through what I was requesting and making sure every detail was covered before it was filed with the court. My ex-wife used two attorney's to help fight against what I was wanting for our son. Bill is very reasonable when he has open communication with other attorneys. In the end... Bill being very calm and patient helped grant what I was trying to get for my son I would recommend Bill any time and would use him again in the future if I ever need it. At least sit down with him so he understands what your direction is.

After many attempts to resolve an unpleasant situation with my employer, I contacted Sean to find out if I had any rights. He looked at my documentation and explained the laws and possible outcomes which helped me to decide which path to take. He then helped me through the whole process. He answered my questions thoroughly and was sensitive to my situation and honest with my prospects for success. I am happy with the outcome and would recommend Sean as an excellent attorney.

Sean was highly recommended from a friend that is a lawyer. Changing jobs is stressful and exciting and when I needed help interpreting a non-compete agreement, I wanted help in a hurry! He was very prompt in returning my call and was able to schedule a call with me on the same day. I was able to sleep that night and got the job offer. He was very thorough and also educated me on what to look for the next time I was in a similar situation. I would use and recommend Sean again in a heartbeat.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Centennial, Colorado?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
