I am an experienced lawyer, but no longer handle residential landlord/tenant litigation. When I needed help for a rental property I own, I knew I was not up to date on recent changes to Colorado landlord/tenant laws. Sal personally returned my call promptly and quickly drafted the necessary documents for me. It was a pleasure working with him.

Pros
1
Responsive and helpful attorney who provides clear guidance and reasonable pricing
“He responded very quickly and was very helpful. Provided insight on the best way to proceed and was forthcoming about the cost which was very reasonable.”
2
Knowledgeable, honest, and ethical attorney who listens to clients and professionally represents their interests
“Keith Ray has been my attorney since around 2001 for business and personal matters. I find him to be very knowledgeable, honest and ethical. He represented my interests professionally at all times. He, also, listens completely to his client when it is sometimes hard for a client to communicate the issues and facts in a language that lawyers understand.”
3
Skilled attorney who achieves positive outcomes for clients
“I would like to say Ray Keith did a terrific job in helping me win my case. Without his expertise I feel I would have never won the case and judgement. I am totally grateful Ray Keith was there for me.”
4
Calm, understanding, and client-focused attorney who educates clients and works diligently to resolve issues
“Keith is amazing! We have hired him for a variety of business needs. He always gives his honest opinion but also listens to your concerns and acknowledges them. He has a very calm demeanor in very stressful situations. We will definitely continue to hire him in the future. Definitely someone you want you want in your corner.”
5
Knowledgeable attorney who guides clients through legal processes and advocates for their rights
“We hired Keith Ray when dealing with a litigious contractor and Keith was incredibly helpful throughout the process. He educated us on legal rights and topics that are not general knowledge. Keith was understanding and answered our questions without judgement. We recommend him for anyone who needs assistance with any legal adversity. We ended up in a much better place after working with him.”
Cons
1
Unresponsive and unprofessional Child and Family Investigator (CFI) who failed to thoroughly investigate and provide an unbiased assessment
“To begin with, the report prepared by Kimberly Utesch was shockingly subpar. It was evident that she had resorted to lazy shortcuts, as portions of the report were blatantly copy-pasted from previous investigations. This lack of originality not only undermined the credibility of the report but also demonstrated a blatant disregard for the unique circumstances of the case.”
2
Biased and negligent CFI who disregarded evidence and failed to prioritize the best interests of the children
“She combine”
3
Unprofessional and unethical CFI who was difficult to reach and failed to communicate effectively with clients
“It was very difficult to get ahold of her. I called her every day for 2 or 3 weeks and always got her secretary. So I left messages and she never returned them. Then she told my lawyer I was going to be in contempt of court because I had not paid her. When I finally got her on the phone, she said she couldn't talk but would call me in a few minutes. I got an email 2 hours later stating she would NOT talk to me until she was paid.”
4
Mediator with bias and lack of impartiality who made inappropriate and unethical recommendations
“The worst mediator ever. She said that the difficulty of my ex dealing with difficulties of being a single parent should be considered in the value of the settlement. She divorced me! This lady is the most sexist and female biased mediator.”
5
Incompetent and negligent CFI who failed to properly investigate, communicate, or provide a comprehensive, unbiased assessment
“Horrible job done on our CFI report. Report was over 2 months overdue and she would not respond and give any updates. Didn't interview witnesses in the case. Very unprofessional and there should be higher consequences when dealing with the outcome of children's lives. Stay away!”

Sean McQuaid and Jason Dycus have been fantastic throughout this entire process. I’m more than thrilled with the outcome of my case and would highly recommend Denver Personal Injury Lawyers to anyone looking for a personal injury attorney. Even though I’m based in New York, and there was a time zone difference, they still provided me with exceptional support and answered all of my questions. Thank you so much for everything!

Bill is an excellent attorney who helped me through a high-conflict divorce with his strategic and calm approach. He is very patient and thinks before he reacts. He never leaves you guessing and openly shares information he receives from the other attorney's involved. One thing that I really liked about Bill is that throughout my entire case I always understood what the worst case scenario could be. He never once mislead me to believe we would win the case or any given dispute would be in my favor. I valued his transparency. He knows what he is doing when it comes to family law. I would certainly recommend him to any of my friends or family that are going through a difficult divorce.

Bill was a great help and resource after my divorce as my ex-wife wanted to fight me on everything for our son. He takes his time to make sure he has every resource available for him to review and makes sure he helps make the right choice in your case. This case was a long one and Bill kept me update on any communications that came from the other attorney. We always worked through what I was requesting and making sure every detail was covered before it was filed with the court. My ex-wife used two attorney's to help fight against what I was wanting for our son. Bill is very reasonable when he has open communication with other attorneys. In the end... Bill being very calm and patient helped grant what I was trying to get for my son I would recommend Bill any time and would use him again in the future if I ever need it. At least sit down with him so he understands what your direction is.

Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Centennial, Colorado?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
