Evan is ineffective, lazy & unprofessional. His lack of communication and work ethic in such a time sensitive process is appalling.

Colorado Law Group was instrumental in helping my business partner and I setup our Operations Agreement and advising on best steps for a successful partnership and operation. We have leaned on Colorado Law Group for business guidance as we have grown from an LLC to SCorp and are so grateful for this team. Thank you to the entire team at Colorado Law Group!

As a business owner they tell you that your CPA and Attorney are your best friends. While I'm still learning and growing everyday, this firm has quickly become my legal team. They've supported me through everything from drafting and enforcing Operating Agreements, to purchasing business/entities, navigating hostile partnerships, and providing legal defense in frivolous employment disagreements. I would not be where I am today without the specific support from Paul Kloster and Chris Wilhelmi. Chris helped me navigate a 2.5yr legal battle with a disgruntled former employee. The case concluded with the opposing counsel dropping the case, firing two associate attorneys, and paying their own legal expenses. In the end, I didn't pay a dime to anyone other than my own legal team. Paul has supervised and counseled me on numerous entity acquisitions and business dealings. One example was where a partner turned hostile and was willing to drive a real estate acquisition into default. We were able to remove the partner and secure their shares well below market rate which allowed me to save the deal. I would not have been able to do any of this without Paul's guidance. All of this to say, if you're a business owner looking for a firm that knows their stuff and is able to navigate everything you might face, these guys have been invaluable to me. While their fees are respectable, they have always kept their word, and at times waived menial expenses on my behalf. As a small business owner, I put my stamp on Paul, Chris, and this firm.

Zendejas is a terrible lawyer! Maybe he's a good golfer. If you enjoy getting firewalled by a receptionist every time you call. If you enjoy having your emails go unanswered. If you enjoy getting charged for 5 min phone calls where your attorney tells you nothing of substance. If you enjoy racking up $10,000 in lawyer fees for an open and shut case. If you and your local magistrate enjoy court mix ups and a missed court appearance. If you like doing more research into the relevant law than your attorney does. If you enjoy repeating yourself and being ignored. If you enjoy hearing nothing from your attorney until 5 days before you have to appear in court. If you enjoy excuses about being stuck in traffic on court day. If you enjoy all of these things, then Zendejas is your man. Oh, and inform your assistant that when you schedule a meeting with a client you should prepare in advance so that you may offer legal advice to that client. If for example, extenuating circumstances require that you call a client from your car mechanics waiting room. You should follow up with that client promptly. (Edit: I can't reply to the business owners response directly). This was an open shut case. Your team did nothing to prepare for this case. In fact they didn't even bother reading the covenants. They displayed incompetence at every step of the process. The judge himself referenced MY personally written argument when he made his ruling. Your apology is completely empty. You have my phone number why don't you try apologizing in person?

Attempted to contact them via phone and email on five different occasions. Ian Burrell would not respond back. Their receptionist would not connect me with anyone else in their firm.

After attending one of the Hammond Law Firm seminars on Estate Planning we decided to contract with to create our Living Trust. Jessica was the attorney that assisted us in creating the documents needed to create this Trust. Due to an impending six week visit to family and friends we were is somewhat of a shortened time schedule. Jessica took the time to talk us through the critical aspects of creating a living trust and was able to schedule the follow-up meetings so as to accommodate our schedule. We are very satisfied with the work she has done and look forward to a long association with her in the future.

My wife and I attended the introductory workshop conducted by Jessica and decided she and the Hammond Law Group were the ones we wanted to work with in creating our estate plan. She guided us through the process and actually made it painless, if not a little fun. She helped us get through the “Five Wishes” which can be a little emotional. We look forward to working with her in the future to help us keep our plan on track.

Jessica represented me in a dIvor cell after 22 years of marriage. She had to deal with every possible le aspect from properties, retirement, military, custody, maintenance, money, debts, probate, and even an accident settlement. She always had the answers and helped me stay calm in a very stressful situation. I was happy with the outcome of the proceedings. Nobody wins in divorce. She is an excellent attorney and I highly recommend her services.

I had a very intricate legal situation, and Clyde Zamir from Family Law Group provided outstanding support. His explanations were clear, he kept his promises, and went above and beyond by working after hours one several occasions! Clyde ensured I understood every detail, offering trustworthy guidance throughout the process by making calls, sending emails, and offering overall guidance/support. Kudos to April and Kenah for their prompt responses to my emails and phone calls no matter what the issue was, making me feel like Family Law Group was more than just a name—they treated me like family. Highly recommended!

I have nothing but amazing things to say about this firm. Joe, Kimberly, and Kris have gone above and beyond to help me with my case - one that I really didn’t think had enough substance to it to be settled in my favor. Not only did they work hard for me, but they truly cared about making sure I felt honored and heard throughout this whole process. It’s been a rocky road with what I’ve dealt with personally. Without them, I wouldn’t have had the ability to find strength, peace, and justice in what I’ve gone through. I’m in awe of the way they all fought for me. They made me feel like I was family - not just another client. They walked through this with me and worked tirelessly to see it through to the end. I couldn’t have asked for better representation. Thank you, Maher & Maher Law! I’m forever grateful.

Mr. Miller represented me in my divorce recently. The help and care Kris and his paralegal Joan gave me during this difficult time was amazing. They were professional, compassionate, and genuinely cared about my well-being as well as the status of my children. I would highly recommend Kris to anyone that is need of an attorney.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Colorado Springs, Colorado?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
