I had a consultation with John Haas based on his excellent reviews and area of expertise. I hired John for my case because of his second-to-none knowledge of the law. What I quickly came to find out was that it was the absolute right choice because of the extreme care he took not only with the facts of my case and the strategy he utilized during my court hearings, but because of the extreme care he took with me personally. When involved in a family/civil court matter, one of the most difficult and stressful times in a person's life, choosing the right attorney is critical. John was absolutely the right choice! With his expertise and unsurpassed guidance, he led me unwaveringly to a successful outcome. Obviously the outcome is the most important aspect of a court action, but feeling personally supported, receiving frequent communication, and being listened to and involved throughout the process was incredibly empowering. Choosing to hire John Haas for my case is easily one of the best decisions I've ever made.

After months of trying to save my marriage I finally concluded there was nothing really left to save. Next step was meeting John Haas who came recommended through a friend. We can all agree that divorce is a pretty terrifying thing. And the day day I walked into his office I was exactly that- terrified. For the next hour John calmly walked me through the process, the rules, and procedures of divorce in Colorado. I walked out of there feeling an indescribable sense of relief and real confidence. I ended up settling the divorce amicably with John's total support and expertise. If you find yourself with no other alternative than divorce , I strongly suggest hiring John to represent you. He's very empathetic, get's it, and knows exactly what he's doing. And he'll take the time to make certain you understand what he's doing and why. His people skills are tops and is reasonably priced. I was happy with my settlement and you will be too.

Where to begin... I was a shattered mess before I hired John he was referred to me by a friend who had hired John to defend her when she needed help with her divorce. The day I did a consult with John I was able to see the light in a very dark and sad tunnel. I was incapable of defending myself against my husband at the time, where I was weak John stood with the strength I didn’t have. He has been a truly amazing and unique attorney. He puts his heart and soul into a career for which the universe created him for. Never had I ever felt neglected or marginalized through the nightmare I was living. He was brought into this world to have strength for those who have none. I could never thank him for giving me an amazing gift, he gave me strength to assert myself in the most difficult and fearful aspects of my life. He, in my eyes went way above and beyond his call of duty. I can never find words to describe in words what was given to me for the first time in 43 years. John is uniquely created to do what he has done for me. His amazing and spectacular team, had never once made me feel like I couldn’t trust them. An awesome unique attorney and his dream team have changed my entire world, my outlook on my future, and changed the way I view myself. That’s a gift I have never been given. Thank the universe for bringing John and his beautiful dream team. They now and forever fill a void, and will forever be protected in this, my newly reconstructed heart I Possess. My gratitude is forever, and my love and my fondness will be there till the stars burn out.

During the past two years I had the pleasure of meeting and be represented by John Haas in a personal legal matter. John's knowledge and experience are outstanding. His professionalism and integrity are second to none. He made a huge difference in moving through to satisfactory resolution of my matter and was able to solve difficult issues throughout the case. He was always the smartest guy on the call or in the room. In addition, John is sensitive to dealing with issues which are personal in nature that arise between individuals in such legal matters, like divorce. John is one of the most outstanding individuals I have met in my 35 year professional career having worked around the globe with a wide variety of people and leaders. I give John my highest recommendation possible and would not hesitate to use him again as an advisor in any legal matter.

John is an excellent family law attorney. Not only did he provide excellent legal advice, he provided great recommendations on surviving the divorce process. I felt he always kept the goals of the client in mind, but he was not shy in highlighting options that were not readily apparent. If you choose John as your attorney, you will be represented with one of the strongest professionals in the Denver area.

My daughter suffered a serious head injury because of a company’s negligence. I wanted the best representation I could find for her and I was happy we found Chris. He kept us well informed and fought hard to get my daughter an excellent settlement. I would trust him with any of my family or friends and would recommend him anytime.

When I was hurt, I was only seventeen and did not understand anything about making an injury claim. Mr. Hoffman was patient and answered all of my questions. At first, the insurance company said they wouldn’t pay anything. But Mr. Hoffman did a great job of proving my case and getting me a great settlement so I could pay my bills and have money for my future. He changed my life. He’s the best.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Denver, Colorado?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
