On September of 2020 I was in a horrible motorcycle accident that resulted in serious bodily injury. I hired Sarah McEahern to represent me through this process. I wish I had the vocabulary to express how incredible she was on my case and as a person. My case was not a simple case, it involved the Federal Government due to the person who caused my accident was a Federal Employee. Sarah was relentless in perusing my case to make sure I was able to get everything I deserved. Sarah treated me with the utmost respect, care and compassion, not only towards my case but towards me as a person. When I was confused or didn't understand some part of my case she took the time and care to explain everything to me in a manner that I could understand, always leaving me with confidence and a state of calm. Her professionalism is un matched. Whenever the opposition would try and slow down my case, or try and throw some curve ball Sarah was never fazed by it and instead would directly confront whatever issue they brought up and put it to rest quickly and firmly. Sarah is a no nonsense Attorney that will represent you fearlessly and honestly. She always let me know what my alternatives where and never made me feel like I was forced into any decision. I always felt in control of my case and her words to me always where "This is YOUR one case". Sarah is an exceptional attorney. My case was Federal but it didn't start out that way. It started as a standard (my term) personal injury case and a short time into my case we found out that it had to be transferred/changed over to a Federal Torts' branch case. Sarah didn't blink an eye or miss a step changing gears from one arena to another. I truthfully feel like an Angel sent Sarah to my corner to fight for me and win my case! Without Sarah representing me I don't know what would of happened and how things would of turned out. I would recommend her to anyone needing help with a Personal Injury claim.

Sarah and Monica were outstanding, the entire firm was outstanding!! Both Monica and Sarah were so helpful through the entire process of my accident. They made me feel so good and welcome. Not only did they handle my case with the utmost professionalism, but they generally cared about my well-being as well. Thank Sarah, Monica and to the entire firm. Without you and your hard work, I wouldn't be in the position I'm in now.

Sarah was my main contact at Zaner Harden Law. She and I interacted frequently on the case, as it progressed from trying to work towards a settlement to filing for litigation. Sarah was indispensable in so many ways, from helping relieve anxiety before deposition, to supporting me through intense crying jags as traumatic events were relived, to making sure all documents were filed correctly, and understanding the intricacies of my case. I never felt overwhelmed when she was in my corner. I always felt she was listening, understanding, and cared about everything related to my case, almost as if it were the only case she had, when I knew she had more. When I had a question (and I had many), she always took the time to clearly answer every one of them in a thoughtful manner. She is smart, articulate, caring, and she was always available when I wanted to talk or text. I would not hesitate to use her again, and I would highly recommend her.

After being hit in a crosswalk by an inattentive driver while riding my bicycle to work in 2017, I was left with a shattered right knee. After spending the next two and one half years in and out of the hospital for eight surgeries and months and months of physical therapy, the driver’s insurance company was offering numbers that can only be described as ludicrous. In December of 2019, we were at a standstill. Then there was covid19. Trial dates were set, then rescheduled and rescheduled again then canceled. At this point it was looking like years until a conclusion. Kurt and Sarah, my attorneys, were able to get the insurance company to a reasonable settlement number. It was not what we had hoped for, but it was reasonable and way above what they were originally offering. If we could have had our day in court, I and Zaner Harden Law are sure we could have done much much better, and I would have really liked to see Kurt in front of a jury! Sarah, Kurt and the Zaner Harden team were sympathetic, professional, thorough and fierce advocates for my case. I would and do recommend them to friends and loved ones without hesitation. I could not have had a better team to represent me. Sincerely, Jim Taylor

My daughter suffered a serious head injury because of a company’s negligence. I wanted the best representation I could find for her and I was happy we found Chris. He kept us well informed and fought hard to get my daughter an excellent settlement. I would trust him with any of my family or friends and would recommend him anytime.

When I was hurt, I was only seventeen and did not understand anything about making an injury claim. Mr. Hoffman was patient and answered all of my questions. At first, the insurance company said they wouldn’t pay anything. But Mr. Hoffman did a great job of proving my case and getting me a great settlement so I could pay my bills and have money for my future. He changed my life. He’s the best.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Denver, Colorado?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
