I came to Amanda Hood after a brain injury from a car accident left me feeling defeated and confused about how to move forward. She listened to and supported me while sticking to task and taking over all the bits and pieces I was sick of managing while dealing with recovery. She was an excellent advocate for me and I was extremely pleased with the outcome of our settlement. I highly recommend working with Amanda.

For us to consider legal assistance months after our vehicle accident was a very difficult decision, because we did not want to settle this matter in court. However, it became evident based on early communications with the offenders insurance company (don’t do it yourself), that they wanted to quickly settle with for nothing. However, my injuries were extensive so we were in no rush (please take your time in these matters, but know your state’s statue of limitations for filing). Anyway, when we decided to consult with an attorney we were fortunate to get recommendations from a neighbor who was a highly respected paralegal in Colorado. Based on recommendations, the list was very slim. In fact with over 15 years of working with Colorado attorneys, this para legal only recommended three. Shapiro Winthers P.C. (now Ogborn Mihm, LLP) was the firm we felt most confident in after initial consultations. They were upfront/straight up with their opinions regarding our case, provided clear and accurate communications regarding their fee schedule (no surprises), maintained a very clean and consistent timeline throughout the three year relationship we developed during our negotiations processes. In particular for us was the way our attorney Amanda Pheil (now Hood) communicated and fought during mediation and other processes with us and her willingness to not only admit what she didn’t know; but her devotion to getting the information and guidance from subject matter experts and senior attorneys so that she provided us with the best advise so that we could make the right decisions at the right time. Of course, attorneys market to make you feel hopeful during commercials and when you need one after an accident; they are aware that you are injured, mad, desperate and at times hopeless and play on your damaged physical and mental state. Yes, I have a background as a Social Worker and Mental Health Counselor and my wife is a nurse, so we know the game. Many will also tell you the sky is the limit for your case; we know, we went through a similar no-fault process over 20 years ago and let me say we were disappointed in the final outcome. We have also had family and friends who experienced similar situations and perhaps you have your own stories. So we were prepared for a similar presentation to pull us in; however, the conversation was a no pressure, this is what we think based on the limited information at the time of consultation, and this is what we do and can do to assist you if you decide to allow this firm to represent you. Not one time was there any surprises in billing as we opted to pay as we go (yes, that is possible and we didn’t have to ask). Not once was there a delay in communicating next steps, not once were we pressured into unnecessary medical exams or securing unnecessary expert witnesses. In fact, all medical care I needed was performed under my personal insurance and all of it was driven by medical necessity; non of this extra stuff to pad the case. I am sharing my experience to say that Amanda and her paralegals (Lauren, then Chris) were straight up and I feel, they were as honest as they could be during our case. In the end we walked out of a unrealistic mediation offer, but understood that happens and that it only meant their would be further negotiations. She continued to dialogue with us and the offender’s legal, and we did settle our claim for a reasonable and fair amount 3 days before we were to enter the courtroom. All said and done we were extremely pleased with Amanda’s professionalism, honesty, people skills, optimism and direction. God forbid we ever have to go through something like this again, but if so we would seek her and the firm out for guidance. My experience is my experience and this is a true and accurate account of that experience and our recommendations to consult with this firm if you need legal guidance post accident. Everyone was professional and nice. Our expectations were exceeded.

Choosing to retain an attorney following my head injury was the best thing I could have done after my car accident, and I couldn’t have asked for a better team. Melissa Winthers and her team went above and beyond when handling my case. When dealing with the insurance company Melissa’s attention to detail made retaining representation well worth it. I always received quick responses to any questions I had along the way and Melissa checked in frequently to see how I was feeling following my accident.
