Pros
1
Highly responsive and communicative attorney
“Doug was always available for any of our questions and we felt very comfortable with him.”
2
Aggressive and thorough representation
“Doug started from day one filing papers and always let us know what was happening.”
3
Achieves favorable outcomes for clients
“He was able to resolve what could have been a long prison sentence to a deferred sentence and probation.”
4
Empathetic and caring approach
“He also showed my family and I empathy and compassion. He listened to what I had to say and what I wanted and made it happen.”
5
Expertise in handling complex legal matters
“Doug quickly responded to my consultation request. Even though his practice areas do not fit the type of law I need he still gave me references to point me in the right direction and took the time to try and help.”
Cons
1
Lack of communication and responsiveness
“Mr. Cohen is unbelievably rude, condescending, and just downright unbearable. As an attorney, his job is to represent his clients to the best of his ability, and to answer questions for scared (authorized) family members- yet every time I asked Mr. Cohen a question, he came back to me with an attitude and made me feel that I should already know the answer and that I was wasting his time by asking said questions.”
2
Withdrawing representation unexpectedly
“Mr. Cohen not only failed to communicate with the defendant efficiently, but also withdrew his services the evening before sentencing- leaving the defendant helpless and without legal council on the most pertinent day of his case.”

I am ecstatic and amazed by the representation and advocacy that I received on behalf of Carter, and the larger team, at Angela Campbell Law. I found their expertise to be exact, well-reasoned, calculated and concisely comprehensive at each step of the process; with tangible and verifiable positive impacts proving their stance on commitment to their clients and seeking just remedy with the court. Their advocacy comes highly recommended from myself, and I am beyond glad they were recommended for representing my case.

I was referred to Angela by another attorney who said he would trust his own family with her, and she did not disappoint! She helped me with a hearing process and she made the entire process as easy as possible. When the hearing came, she was well prepared and and hard copies of all the documents we needed in addition to the digital copies she had filed. She easily handled all questions that came up. All in all, Angela was so easy to talk to throughout the whole process and so professional. I cannot thank her enough for her work!

Angela and her assistant Carter were great to say the least. Sometimes you find yourself in a position where you need to lean on others knowledge for support, comfort, and hopes of a better result. They do just that. Easily communicative, answered me quickly and thoroughly , guided and aided me through the court process and more . Great people to have on your team, I wish nothing but success to the both of you. One more time thank you!

Jake and his team took on my case when I had a hard time finding someone to represent me due to being in the military and moving out of state. The case took a while due to all my medical issues and tracking down my records but his team stayed persistent throughout the whole process. He was able to negotiate my settlement and make sure all medical providers and insurance companies involvied were satisfied. Lastly he and his team were able to secure a fair settlement for my pain and suffering. Nothing can restore me to full health but it will help me continue treatment and manage my pain moving forward. I would not have done this any other way. There is good reason in having a lawyer and true professional by your side to advocate for you! Thank you Jake Eisenstein! -Frank

My daughter suffered a serious head injury because of a company’s negligence. I wanted the best representation I could find for her and I was happy we found Chris. He kept us well informed and fought hard to get my daughter an excellent settlement. I would trust him with any of my family or friends and would recommend him anytime.

When I was hurt, I was only seventeen and did not understand anything about making an injury claim. Mr. Hoffman was patient and answered all of my questions. At first, the insurance company said they wouldn’t pay anything. But Mr. Hoffman did a great job of proving my case and getting me a great settlement so I could pay my bills and have money for my future. He changed my life. He’s the best.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Denver, Colorado?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
