David Urban helped me with a marital agreement, as my wife and I pursue our Estate Plan. It was necessary for my wife and me to each have our own representation creating the agreement. David worked with me and developed a solid agreement that my wife approved and passed it to her attorney for review. David was extremely reasonable in his pricing. He was very easy to work with and we had to go back and forth on a few issues. But overall, my experience with Urban Law was excellent. I would highly recommend his firm. While my wife and I have a different estate attorney, I would contact Urban Law in a heartbeat for any other legal needs.

Our financial advisor recommended that we work with David Urban as our estate attorney and we are SO glad that we took her advice. David was terrific to work with and did exactly what we asked him to do in a timely manner. He has strong expertise in estate planning and gave great advice regarding our specific financial and personal goals. He answered all of our questions, spoke in lay-person’s terms, and helped us to think through some of the details about current and future plans. It was easy to schedule remote appointments with him during the time of COVID and his office followed COVID safety protocols when it came to signing documents. Most importantly, he did not push “extras” on us and did not have an agenda of his own. We highly recommend using David Urban for your estate planning needs.

I have consulted David Urban for years to provide me with business documents and estate planning. He provides his clients a great service when you need a document to secure your business or your estate. When someone asks me about a partnership agreement, obtaining a will or planning their estate for their loved ones, I consistently tell them that if you need a document, David is your attorney. He is professional and responds fast to his clients.

In my line of work, I routinely refer clients to attorneys, but I didn’t know any attorneys in Colorado. My wife and I were purchasing a house in the Denver area, but we currently live in another state, more than 1,000 miles away. Our realtor told us that we didn’t need an attorney. That was our first mistake. The day before closing, we ran into problems with the sellers. I needed the help of a Denver attorney in a hurry. I read David’s reviews online and decided to call him. He returned my call right away. Even though he had never spoken with me before, David and I spoke numerous times throughout the day and exchanged countless emails. Before speaking with David, I thought I might have to fly to Denver to straighten things out. We were working on a tight deadline and we risked losing a sizeable down payment on the property if the deal fell apart. David successfully resolved the matter on our behalf. I’m certain that my issue consumed most of his day, even though I wasn’t even on his calendar 24 hours earlier. Plus, I never had to fly to Denver and we closed on the property from my office, only a few miles from our home. My wife and I will be permanently relocating to the Denver area in a few months. We need to update our wills and other estate planning documents, and we will call on David again. I also hope to refer my clients to David, once I am settled in the Denver area.

I am not sure how anyone can get through life without knowing David and having him help you with your estate planning. Indeed, I now realize I was a lost sheep, wandering aimlessly through life, not realizing how ill prepared I was until I met David. Without his help, I now realize that my estate, and my family, could have been in very, very bad shape if I continued to go on living without planning. A friend of mine introduced me to David. He was not only so knowledgeable, but was fun, caring and took the time to get to know and understand my family's needs (without charging me a ton for this time!). I now have an amazing estate plan in place, and when I spoke to some other friends and told them what he had done for me and what I paid-- they were blown away. By far, the best value in town and the best investment you can ever make. Run, don't walk, to David if you do not have all your proper life planning taken care of!

My wife and I had a great experience with Sarah. We decided to develop our estate plan right before (and after) the birth of our first child. Sarah was extremely professional, while also displaying a high level of patience with us. I would highly recommend her services.

My daughter suffered a serious head injury because of a company’s negligence. I wanted the best representation I could find for her and I was happy we found Chris. He kept us well informed and fought hard to get my daughter an excellent settlement. I would trust him with any of my family or friends and would recommend him anytime.

When I was hurt, I was only seventeen and did not understand anything about making an injury claim. Mr. Hoffman was patient and answered all of my questions. At first, the insurance company said they wouldn’t pay anything. But Mr. Hoffman did a great job of proving my case and getting me a great settlement so I could pay my bills and have money for my future. He changed my life. He’s the best.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Denver, Colorado?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
