2
Provides realistic and honest assessments

3
Effective in court and advocates strongly for clients
“He is tough, and that's what you want on your side in the court room.”
Cons
1
Can be unresponsive and fail to show up for important hearings
“He did not show up for our court hearing, leaving me to have to fight for myself - thank God I knew another attorney that could step in, even though he does nothing in domestic cases.”
2
Lacks empathy and compassion for clients' emotional situations
“He continuously thought I had a son (I have a daughter), could not remember what we talked about 10 minutes after spoken, and charged me for phone conversations in which 90% of the conversation he would ramble on about his own family situation.”
3
May not always achieve the desired outcome for clients
“I would not use him for a traffic ticket! My divorce is being re-opened after my ex was just convicted of Perjury and Theft regarding items he claimed I had all throughout the divorce proceedings.”

I was referred to Jeff by one of my clients who is also a real estate investor and fix n flip guy. When I first met with Jeff, he gave me his background of experience in this scope of law. He then explained how construction defect cases work as well as the ins and outs of how to navigate through one successfully. He thought from the beginning that there was no real claim but that we had to fight this as fraud and conspiracy were being charged. Long story short, we went to mediation and settled for less than what my attorney fees would have been to fight this. Btw, this dragged on for almost a year before we got to this point. While I didn't like the idea of settling as I felt that I did everything right in the sale of the home, the thought of wasting time and money in a trial made the outcome much more tolerable.

Mr Wittebort, is a great divorce attorney. He was straight forward and "honest". When I was asking for some unreasonable request he let me know that it would not be allowed in the divorce guidelines. When I got to court my husband asked for everything and I walked away with every I wanted. This process was so much easier with Mr. Wittebort that I was not as stressed out as I have seen some of my friends

My daughter had divorced and was having trouble with her ex-husband, he was trying to take custody of their son from my daughter. Her previous lawyer did not seem to be very knowledgeable in the area of family law nor did she seem to care what happened and made a bad situation even worse. She didn't seem to care about what happened to the child or my daughter. With Jeff's knowledge and years of experience he was able to over come the mistake that had been made by the previous lawyer and come to a resolution that was best for the child and fair for both my daughter and her ex-husband. I have been in law enforcement for 18 years. In my experience I believe that Jeff is one of the best lawyers I have worked with.

In 2006 I filed for divorce. As if a divorce is not a hard enough life journey it was even harder to find a lawyer that would represent my son and I. I struggled and struggled to find a good divorces lawyer hired and fired several lawyers before I found Jeffery Wittebort. Jeffery was absoutly amazing with 30 plus years of experience he knew what would hold up in court and what the judges would not go for, so I was not wasting money on issues that I would not win. Jeff was easy to get in contact with and I never doubted his advice I had put all my trust in Jeff. Jeff helped me through the roughest time of my life and was very happy with the end results. I now have my son 90% of the year. I would reccommend Jeff to anyone seeking a divorce attorney. Thank you Jeff for all you have done for my son and I.

I met Jeffrey Wittebort through a friends referral. Jeffrey was helpful on several different occasions involving my sons issues with the law .Mr Wittebort was able to get my son probation in 2 different cases. He was very informative and fairly priced by comparison to other Lawyers I spoke with. He had good knowledge of the court system and was extremely helpful and will use him again if the need occurs. I highly recommend him for any legal needs you might have !

My daughter suffered a serious head injury because of a company’s negligence. I wanted the best representation I could find for her and I was happy we found Chris. He kept us well informed and fought hard to get my daughter an excellent settlement. I would trust him with any of my family or friends and would recommend him anytime.

When I was hurt, I was only seventeen and did not understand anything about making an injury claim. Mr. Hoffman was patient and answered all of my questions. At first, the insurance company said they wouldn’t pay anything. But Mr. Hoffman did a great job of proving my case and getting me a great settlement so I could pay my bills and have money for my future. He changed my life. He’s the best.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Denver, Colorado?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
