Andrew saved me on different levels! A friend assisted to contact him while I was in detention after someone close to me called ICE on me to have me deported. Additionally, a previous attorney that I hired failed to file my papers despite claiming to have done so prior to this dreadful incident. I experienced Andrew’s commitment to helping people in need as he reached out to me even before my then attorney in detention. My previous attorney made several errors that would have made it difficult for me to be released from detention if not for Andrew’s intervention. I later hired Andrew to represent me for both cancellation of removal and adjustment of status, and he performed exceptionally well, resulting in my successful adjustment of status. I am thankful! When I met with Andrew, I was on the verge of being deported, risked never seeing my child if I was deported, or at least for an extended period. However, Andrew worked hard to overturn my situation till I was able to adjust my status to become a permanent resident. Andrew is very dedicated and conscientious, deeply knowledgeable in his work, and considerate when it comes to billing – he was never about the money but cared more about helping me. I highly recommend Andrew if you are looking for an immigration attorney who would work for you as if he was working for himself. He is the One!!

He is very knowledgeable on what he does. I moved from India in k-1 visa and he helped in every step of our process. He was instrumental in our preparation for every meeting with USCIS. I’m very thankful and appreciative of all his knowledge and experience in getting me a green card. Thank you and I would definitely recommend Andrew Brooks.

I looked around a few law firms and meet with a couple of lawyers before choosing Andrew. I honestly felt very comfortable with Andrew and could see how organized and detailed he was, and most importantly he was very compassionate. He also charges very fair in comparison to other lawyers in his field and does much more then the average immigration lawyer. So we ended up working with Andrew during my immigration case. As expected I was nervous to go through the process but he was amazing! Most of the policies had just changed but Andrew was on top of all the changes and he talked through the whole process with us in great detail. He was very responsive and walked us through the entire process and helped us prep for the interview. He reviewed every application and was very organized through it all. I know our process would have not gone as smooth if it weren’t for Andrew. If you’re looking for a good immigration lawyer that cares, gets the job done, is very organized, and doesn’t over charge... then Andrew is definitely for you!

My daughter suffered a serious head injury because of a company’s negligence. I wanted the best representation I could find for her and I was happy we found Chris. He kept us well informed and fought hard to get my daughter an excellent settlement. I would trust him with any of my family or friends and would recommend him anytime.

When I was hurt, I was only seventeen and did not understand anything about making an injury claim. Mr. Hoffman was patient and answered all of my questions. At first, the insurance company said they wouldn’t pay anything. But Mr. Hoffman did a great job of proving my case and getting me a great settlement so I could pay my bills and have money for my future. He changed my life. He’s the best.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Denver, Colorado?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
