We hired Samantha Pryor as she came highly recommended and when we checked reviews, hers were favourable. Sometimes you hire an aggressive attorney because you want them to be aggressive on your behalf. In our case, we did not expect nor desire to have that experience ourselves. Our organization has no reason to believe that Ms. Pryor is not a capable attorney. From a working relationship standpoint, we changed counsel for two primary reasons as outlined below.
1. We found Ms. Pryor to be inflexible and unresponsive regarding billing issues. To provide an example, our accountant advised that her billing did not meet requirements to issue payment. I wrote to her on 9/2 and offered to bear the expense of having the accountant develop compliant documentation for payment if she could provide a request for payment along with the accounting support. On 9/7 she responded with an email that basically said - you have a retainer agreement, you need to replenish the retainer before we do any more work. I responded on 9/12 reiterating our offer to bear the expense ourselves to create compliant documentation for the accountant to issue payment. Her response the following day was that this was "problematic" and she has never had such a request. If we didn't pay her in 4 days, she would withdraw.
I don't know about you, we pride ourselves on compliance and if our accountant needs documentation to support an invoice, we view that as a reasonable request (perhaps better described as a requirement). I have never had anyone who is requesting payment to refuse to comply ESPECIALLY when we offered to bear the accountant's expense associated with creating the required documentation. Unfortunately, we couldn't do it ourselves, we needed the support which was withheld. We would expect anyone we do business with to work with us to find a mutually agreeable solution to any challenges we may encounter, especially regarding payment, and to do so graciously (and in an effort to accommodate an accountant's needs). We were disappointed to find that not to be the case.
2. One of the reasons we hired Ms. Pryor was that we expected to get the quality of representation we would have from a large firm at a lower cost since Ms Pryor should not have the overhead of a large firm. We found that Ms. Pryor was actually more expensive than large firms we worked with. As one small illustration, she charged us $544 to request additional response time and to file a substitution of counsel. We had the same service provided by one of the large law firms in downtown Denver, with an attorney whose hourly rate was higher than Ms. Pryor's, for less than half the cost.

I worked for a company and the owner turned out to be a very big crook. Samantha fought for me and won a default judgement for approximately $139k. She was relentless and my voice and ultimately serves up a good slice of justice to someone that needed it! THANKS Samantha! You are AMAZING!

Samantha assisted me in an employment law issue related to a wrongful discharge. She was extremely helpful in assessing my rights and in negotiating a fair settlement. She was also mindful of the cost to represent me and what I could do in order to keep fees reasonable. I appreciated her help very much in resolving this in a timely manner.
