Riggs Abeny was very quick to respond to my issue and provided me with a thorough analysis of my issue and provided me with all the needed information to make my decision. I would collaborate with this firm again.

Both Santiago re intake, Ms Anderson and others answering my questions are very professional, clear and effective. I use Legal Shield for "preventative legal" for the most part (anticipating problems before they become critical), and it saves hours and costs.

Pros
1
Responsive and prompt legal services
“They responded very quick, had great solutions, reached out to the party we were having problems with and their follow up after the fact was phenomenal.”
2
Knowledgeable and professional attorneys
“I have had the pleasure of working with Steven Louis Prescott and Emily Ostrander. I cannot say enough complimentary words about this firm. Not only is their intelligence superior to most, but the level in which they conduct themselves restores faith in the legal profession.”
3
Affordable and valuable legal services through LegalShield
“I've been with this firm for a while. They have advised me through thick and thin. I am very pleased”
4
Thorough and comprehensive legal assistance
“Riggs Abney helped my update my will. They were prompt when the ball was in their court, and patient when they were waiting on me. They were eager to explain as needed, to help me understand my options and what I needed to do.”
5
Personalized and caring customer service
“Jenna was extremely professional, friendly, competent, and best of all, she simply cared about us and our family, going out of her way to do whatever she could to assist us in a stressful and difficult legal situation.”
Cons
1
Inconsistent and unhelpful service from some attorneys
“DO NOT EVER deal with Jill Chase!!! I was referred to her for a business question through Legal Shield and she was the rudest person I have ever spoke to in a professional setting, yelled at me and was extremely condescending.”
2
Lack of transparency and communication
“They refused to honor the Engagement Agreement allowing for both of us to speak in the presence of each other regarding the will preparation and changes. She also refused to listen to the fact that I signed a durable POA, which she prepared, and could speak on behalf of my fiancé when he wasn't able to.”
3
Unwillingness to assist with certain legal matters
“It's good just for small case like dispute a charge, but when you have questions or claim for something bigger they would be refuse to handle it or even give you an advice due to ethical rules.”
4
Difficulty in accessing expected legal services
“I was excited to join "Legal Shield" and enjoy the piece of mind it offered with a law firm on call to take a stand on my behalf. With the first support request I questioned the usefulness and value of the service. No representation was offered, just directions on locating "self help" forms on the county courthouse website.”
5
Rude and dismissive behavior from staff
“Absolutely terrible. They/she do not review documents sent prior to call. They don't follow directions per my scheduling of telephonic interview. The woman I spoke to just "felt" that I shouldn't <perform legal/illegal question/act> and was not based on law, just a feeling.”

Attorney Flinders did an outstanding job. I am so grateful. He is kind and has great people skills, which I believe made it difficult for the insurance company to give him a hard time. He always returned emails and phone calls. You will not be disappointed with Flinders Law

Craig has represented me on three matters all with positive outcomes and all very different from the others. Craig's approach was specific to each situation while he saw each through to conclusion. He is diligent in his approach while taking your personal situation into account. You will not find a better attorney nor person to represent you at the time you need someone to represent you most.

I was in a rear end collision and had a very difficult time getting the defense side to pay for my injuries and accept liability. Cajardo made the process a much more pleasant experience and in the end helped me win my case against the defense side. He is an amazing lawyer who will go to any length to help out his clients and make sure they get the best ending possible. I would recommend him to anyone who is looking for a personal injury lawyer.

We hired Mark Levy because we felt we weren't being treated fairly by American Family Insurance Company. We had significant damage to our house as the result of a storm and our insurance company was refusing to pay for the damage despite an umpire’s judgement. We were feeling very vulnerable and were confused by the legal issue issues in this matter. Mark took the time to explain the legal issues including the strengths and weaknesses in our case. Mark was responsive to our questions and concerns. He was professional, hopeful and honest and not unreasonably optimistic. Everyone in Mark's office was professional, courteous and available. It was never a problem to talk with Mark if we had questions. The other lawyers in his office were always available if Mark was away from the office. Everyone always seem to be up to date in terms of the issues of our case. Throughout the course of this matter his office was in constant communication with us. Ultimately our case was settled in mediation. Mark was a tenacious and tough negotiator. He was excellent partner during the course of this most stressful event. We would highly recommend Mark if you need an excellent lawyer to represent you against your insurance company.

What Questions Should I Ask Before Hiring a Lawyer?

Hiring the right lawyer is crucial for the success of your case. Here are some important questions to ask during your initial consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the expected timeline for my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What challenges do you foresee in my case?

  10. Are there alternative ways to resolve my legal issue?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Englewood, Colorado?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
