I first consulted with Attorney Kimberly Alderman regarding possible cancellation of a Timeshare Services Agreement, based upon the company’s failure to comply with its obligations. I asked her two questions: Did I have a valid reason for cancellation and, if so, what was her fee to help me do so. She asked me to tell her more about it and quietly listened to my tale. I was shocked when, instead of answering either of my questions, Kimberly had skillfully reassessed the situation and replied that she believed I was a victim of a fraudulent scam and was worried that I would not be able to recoup the charges I had paid the deceitful company to release me from the timeshare! With kindness and compassion, Kimberly showed more concern for MY well being than for HER firm’s business. Such an amazing person and an absolute Godsend!!! At no cost to me, after calming me down from my overwhelm, she counseled Me to immediately report the matter to my credit card company, and said that SHE would advise the Colorado Bureau of Investigation and the Pikes Peak Elder Justice Center of my situation. Fast forward two weeks: My credit card company completed its own fraud investigation and refunded the entire $9600 to my account!!! Kudos to Kimberly for coming to my rescue! If anyone EVER has need of legal assistance with ANY matter, look no further than Attorney Kimberly Alderman at Alderman Law Firm. You will sleep well when you are in her hands! As for me, I have gratefully found a trusted attorney to represent me with any future needs.

I will forever be grateful to Kimberly for taking me on as a client. I was feeling defeated and hopeless prior to talking to her, she took on my case when no one else would. She took the time not only to review the thousands of pages of "evidence" against me but to also really get to know my story during that time. She fought for me from the moment we first talked all the way to our last court date. She is quick to respond and thorough in everything she does. If you are looking for someone who will truly fight for you then she is the attorney for you. There is no way I would have had the outcome I did if it wasn't for her. I cannot thank her enough for the stress she has taken off my shoulders and all the time she spent on my case.

Attorney Kimberly Penix arguments were flawless, precise, and very compelling. I would therefore highly recommend the Alderman Penix Law Firm. Quick to respond to any question I had of any matter in helping me understand her thoughts on the issues. Exceptionally well versed in the law. Out of my 18 years of dealing with attorneys, Ms. Penix in my book is one of the best that I have dealt with. Ms. Penix was professional and corresponded with me throughout the entire proceeding. This would include case updates, appellate representation in 10th Circuit Appeal, and any other relevant correspondences. I was always kept adequately informed on the status of my case.

My wife and I had been putting off creating our Family Trust for years. We interviewed many estate planners, but so often they talked over our heads, and did not seem to take a personal interest in us as a family. This all changed the moment we met with Jim Parke! Jim walked us through every aspect of our estate plan, making considerable efforts to ensure that we understood all aspects of the process. We were treated as if we were part of his family, so that we felt totally confident that he had our best interests at heart. He even reached out to meet with our kids next time they are in town to make sure that they too understand the intricacies of our Family Trust! I give my highest recommendation for Jim Parke to anyone that is looking for personal legal services. He is a huge leap above the rest!

Rob was excellent. My case was difficult and extensive and I feel he worked very hard to get me the best outcome. I was nervous through my whole case and every time I talked to him he put me at ease. He took the time to explain anything I didn't understand, which was a lot. He never made me feel like I was alone in this. He never push me in any decision. He explained my options, which changed often through my drawn out case, told me the pros and cons of each and let me decide how I wanted to proceed. He was the only lawyer I talked to and not once did I think about going to someone else. I would definitely recommend him to anyone that could use his services!

Recently, I had a need to hire a Federal Defense Attorney and Rob was recommended to me from another Attorney. From the first meeting on, Rob has provided a superior level of service to me. He has kept me informed, educated and has treated me with respect and dignity. Rob has an ability to speak with you in a language you understand and can digest. I could not recommend him more highly.

Helped my mom with her divorce. I'm not sure what all the detailes were, but one day she took me in with her so I can see what it's like to talk to a lawyer. He was super nice, and treated me like an adult. He let me look over some paperwork and explained to me what different things ment. His office seemed to run smoothly, and I know her handled her divorce in an effiecient way.

What Questions Should I Ask Before Hiring a Lawyer?

Hiring the right lawyer is crucial for the success of your case. Here are some important questions to ask during your initial consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Fort Collins, Colorado?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
