I had an excellent experience with Fort Collins Family Law. They were incredibly responsive and professional throughout my case. Ms. Lamborne took the time to thoroughly understand my situation and what was important to me. She offered several approaches and developed a plan of action that resulted in a very positive mutual outcome. Ms. Dandeneu was also very responsive and organized, ensuring seamless communication. Invoices and expenses were clear and agreeable, with no unexpected charges or surprises. Their legal advice was knowledgeable, and they clearly defined the positive and negative implications of our strategy. I was very happy working with the team and would strongly recommend them to a friend. I will continue to have them represent me without hesitation going forward.

I cannot recommend Sarah enough! No one wants to have to deal with family court issues, but if you do, this is absolutely the law firm to use! Throughout the entire process, Sarah was knowledgeable, kind, empathetic, organized, and realistic. My emails/calls were always answered quickly, and Sarah was always clear and honest as far as what to expect, giving her advice while also listening to my concerns. My only regret is I didn't use her when I first got divorced, haha...this was for a bunch of post-decree stuff, that unfortunately went allllll the way to a hearing. In the courtroom, Sarah was clearly much more prepared than the other counsel, organized, and had made sure I was very clear on what to expect/do, and you can tell she is smart, quick, (and also tough as she cross-examines!) I ended up getting not just everything I wanted, but extra things I didn't expect as well. However, even the outcome was less than that, I would still be recommending her, because of how helpful and amazing she and her staff were for the entire years-long process leading up to this. She was also fair in her billing, (and didn't let the other party or my witness run extra time on the billing clock.) I hope you never need a family attorney, but if you do, this is the one to use.

My wife and I had been putting off creating our Family Trust for years. We interviewed many estate planners, but so often they talked over our heads, and did not seem to take a personal interest in us as a family. This all changed the moment we met with Jim Parke! Jim walked us through every aspect of our estate plan, making considerable efforts to ensure that we understood all aspects of the process. We were treated as if we were part of his family, so that we felt totally confident that he had our best interests at heart. He even reached out to meet with our kids next time they are in town to make sure that they too understand the intricacies of our Family Trust! I give my highest recommendation for Jim Parke to anyone that is looking for personal legal services. He is a huge leap above the rest!

On behalf of Spiro Palmer; I was in a car accident in 2023, and my car was totaled and I was severely injured. I called the VanMevern Law Firm, and my attorney Catharine Fullerton and her assistant Amy Selcke were professional, personal, and reassuring throughout the process. They were truly understanding and supportive of my circumstances, and ensured I received the compensation I deserved. They did an outstanding job representing me, and kept me up to date with weekly communications.  In the end, I was very pleased with my results. I would highly recommend them. - Spiro Palmer

Rob was excellent. My case was difficult and extensive and I feel he worked very hard to get me the best outcome. I was nervous through my whole case and every time I talked to him he put me at ease. He took the time to explain anything I didn't understand, which was a lot. He never made me feel like I was alone in this. He never push me in any decision. He explained my options, which changed often through my drawn out case, told me the pros and cons of each and let me decide how I wanted to proceed. He was the only lawyer I talked to and not once did I think about going to someone else. I would definitely recommend him to anyone that could use his services!

Recently, I had a need to hire a Federal Defense Attorney and Rob was recommended to me from another Attorney. From the first meeting on, Rob has provided a superior level of service to me. He has kept me informed, educated and has treated me with respect and dignity. Rob has an ability to speak with you in a language you understand and can digest. I could not recommend him more highly.

  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Fort Collins, Colorado?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
