I can't thank you enough for what you have done for me. You were always available to answer any question that I had. Your firm went above and beyond what I had expected. I will refer your firm to anyone that would need a legal team to represent them. Molly, you and Alan fought for me, I never had much in life and you gave me hope. Just talking with the both of you reassured me that everything was going to be okay. Your good people, you care about others, if it was not for putting trust in you I would not have had the outcome that I did. Thank you so very much for everything that you did for me, it is so appreciated. God bless you both.

Without Alan Shafner and his team, I wouldn’t have been able to navigate the challenges and emotional toll that my case brought. I also wouldn’t have found the strength and courage within myself to face it with confidence and believe that a successful outcome was achievable. Alan demonstrated the power of standing up for your truth and what you know is right. With his years of experience and strategic expertise, he transformed what initially seemed daunting and unattainable into a complete reality. His unwavering support and confidence in both myself and our case were vital in helping me through periods of stress and doubt. Without his total faith and assurances, I wouldn’t have had the courage to confront this complex hurdle. He truly put in the effort, showing determination in everything he did to achieve a positive result. Molly, Lars, and Allie were also integral to the process. They guided me every step of the way, easing my stress during especially difficult times while being incredibly empathetic, helpful, and understanding. I will always be immensely grateful to Alan and his team for their dedication, support, and commitment to making my case a success. They helped me find the perseverance and fortitude to overcome this challenging time in my life. If it hadn’t been for Alan, I wouldn’t be sitting here today with newfound inner strength and empowerment. Thank you so much, Alan, and to each and every person who contributed to making this possible.

This immigration service is 5-stars. Erin Williams runs this business. She and her staff are great. The location (near Orchard and Quebec) is easy to access but it can be a little difficult to find. It's part of a larger complex that has several different offices (hers is building 4) so give yourself a few extra minutes to find it the first time. I had a lot of questions about the U.S. immigration process especially how to best maximize the probability of getting a visa for my friend who lives in China. I went with an initial 1-hr consult and got good solid answers for all of my questions. Erin really know the business. Afterwards, when talking with my friend, a few other questions came up and I arranged a follow-up "phone" consult with her that pretty much finished up every question I have. When the time comes, and my friend and I hopefully marry, I will obviously contact Erin again for all the details regarding spousal and/or fiancee visas. Finally, you won't find a friendlier person or staff to work with.

Mr. Leonard Higdon is such a humble, thorough and helpful attorney. We have only begun our journey to resolve a contract dispute and I am so grateful that Mr. Higdon showed compassion for my situation. During our initial consulation, Mr. Higdon gave me wonderful guidance and advice. You don't find many people like him. I highly recommend Leonard Higdon should you have legal needs!

Leonard and his team worked with us from the beginning to the end of a very emotional custody issue. The gentleness of all the staff and excellent communication with them kept the process flowing smoothly. Although I hope no one has to go through what we had to, having Leonard and his team on our side to navigate the legal process and deal with the other party involved made the situation a lot easier to handle. We highly recommend Leonard and his firm!

Mr. Leonard was always very competent and made me feel safe about a traffic accident. I'm an immigrant, and I've had a car accident that I've had to go to several times to court, and also I had some problems with insurance. I lost many nights of sleep until I found Mr. Leonard who from the beginning told me not to worry. He solved all the problems and did the best for me. I really recommend him! He will do a great job in your case.

Spoke with Todd who understood my case immediately and was fantastic!! Met with Laurie Joe and she handled my difficult case with precision!! Listened and explained every action and knew what to do with professionalism and experience!! She made the other parties attorney look foolish and lazy and got the results I wanted. Hopefully won’t need them again-but if I do, I know who I am calling!!

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Greenwood Village, Colorado?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
