I foolish had signed a postnuptial that could have ruined me financially. I had consulted with another lawyer and was told there was nothing that could be done. I was absolutely devastated!! I then met with Andy later that day. He looked over the postnuptial and found so many loop holes. I knew I had found the lawyer I needed for my divorce. He is so incredibly knowledgeable, competent, trustworthy, takes the high road on issues. Even though he has been a lawyer for 23 years, he still has that intense drive and dedication to make things right for his clients. Andy didn't make me feel like a fool for signing this awful postnuptial. There was a lot of intense emotions I had and he was kind and thoughtful in his responses to me. His goal was to save me financially and that's exactly what he did. Andy, you have the utmost respect from me. I so appreciate your dedication, perseverance, knowledge, kindness that you showed me through my divorce. Thank you!!!

Andy is an excellent and experienced attorney. I hired him for my divorce proceedings which were difficult circumstances as I was out of state with one child and expecting another. And full of drama... Andy knew when to address the drama and when not to... keeping my legal fees in check. He is thorough and knows how to use the actual law to help your case. He kept me grounded in a very difficult time and achieved the best possible outcome with mine and my children's best interests always in mind. I now consider Andy a friend. Hire this excellent attorney!!!

I highly recommend hiring Andy as your divorce and family attorney. Not only was Andy responsive to my case needs but he was/is, extremely competent and he has several years in practicing divorce and family law; a definite benefit for any case. His experience and years of practice was crucial to many aspects of my divorce. I knew I was in good hands at each and every turn of my case and I was thankful I had Andy on my side to support me through the tumultuous process. I sincerely appreciated his service and care in addressing the separation of assets and sticky situations that arose around children. He didn't spend time (my money) on unnecessary tasks or documentation. Going through divorce is difficult especially when children are involved and the professionalism, responsiveness, preparation and good counsel that Andy offers is invaluable. Due to the emotional state that divorce burdens one with, it’s easy to back down and not get what you want/deserve; Andy’s experience and law knowledge enabled my case to move quickly and effectively with a desired outcome. I have high regard for Andy. He walked me through every step of the long and time-consuming process with good counsel. I will absolutely use Andy again; however, I’ll never get married again - Happily divorced thanks to Andy!

I hired Andy to help with my case of modifying child support and restrict parenting time. My case was quite the challenge with my ex-husband, the best compulsive liar you would ever meet. My ex is one of those guys who owns his own business and claims he makes nothing but lives quite the lifestyle and had only paid me $139 for child support for the last 7 years. Andy did his homework and got me what I have deserved for the last 7 years and got my ex what he deserved, caught for lying and abusing the system. Justice has finally been served and Andy was the lawyer to do it. He was great to work with and I would recommend him to anyone that needed a GREAT lawyer. He definitely knows what he is doing. I have had lawyers in the past and they didn't fight for me like Andy did. This has been a long time coming with my ex and Andy did it! Thank you again Andy for all you did, I greatly appreciate it. You are the BEST!!!!!!!!

Andy had been my divorce attorney for many years. My ex-husband and his attorney are both extremely difficult to work with, yet throughout it all, Andy maintains his ethics and his integrity at every turn. Andy is well-versed in the legal process, his motions are precise, well-written and extremely effective. He knows court room procedures and practices and is well-liked and respected by the judges. He is always well-prepared, honest, straightforward, quick to respond to all of my questions and concerns, professional, friendly, and impressive in his knowledge of Colorado family law. I have referred many people to Andy and will continue to do so. He is an excellent attorney who will fight hard for his clients without charging them exorbitant fees. His knowledge and dedication enable him to be an excellent attorney and advocate for his clients.

When I met Nathan Dowell, I knew immediately I would hire him to represent me. He has great communication skills and goes after what needs to be done. He and his paralegal, Karen Yurack, are quite the power team. Karen is very supportive, and they work in sync. You definitely want them on your side, as they went above and beyond to help.

I found myself a victim of roofing contractor that took my money and didn’t perform any work. County law enforcement was moving incredibly slow and I did not have strong confidence I was going to recover any of my money. I decided to hire Stuart Morse Law firm. I mostly worked with Greg on my case and I was immediately impressed with this law firm. This team of law was able to recover all the money the contractor stole from me and almost all the damages the roofing contractor created. The Stuart Morse Team did a great job! Thank you!

My family recently worked with Stuart D. Morse & Associates, LLC. It is not often that I am compelled to write a review but we felt very fortunate to have them represent us. The professionalism and communication was more than we could have asked for. Our direct contact was Gregory J. Theo. He was always there to answer questions and communicate with us on the progress of our case. I will definitely be referring your office in the future.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Greenwood Village, Colorado?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
