Julia refused to read the “narrative” statement she asked both parties to complete - which provides the case history and impact on the child. Her report to the mediator/arbitrator misquoted court documents that were provided, had dates that were wrong, and omitted key facts supporting her “reasoning.” The CFI did nothing to resolve court involvement, or improve outcomes for the child involved. I have written evidence supporting all claims made in this review.

Very biased! I wish I would’ve read other reviews before I hired Julia. I was told by my lawyer Julia favors a 50/50 schedule. She was also the more expensive option, over $3000. She only added one day to my every other weekend schedule. And all the lies my ex wife said to her, she took for truth, regardless of the police reports and text messages I provided. They weren’t even included in her final report. Very biased and very unprofessional, she hadn’t even opened the emails I sent to her til the follow up call just before the final report was due! Saddest part is my kids are the ones who suffer from her unprofessional behavior. Good luck to all you men out there fighting the good fight! Don’t give up!! And don’t go with Julia if you get the chance to pick your CFI like I did. $1675 in her pocket, while my kids go without their father.

Like other reviewers I wish I would have read her reviews before allowing her to be added to the list of CFI's that my lawyer's office suggested. Julia is a robot with no expression or thought given to the true well being of the child involved. I was told in court that she questioned my credibility as I had "too many" allegations against my son's father because I told the truth of a history of abuse, drug use and selling. It does not benefit to tell the truth about the other parent. I would have been much better off if I lied to her about what I was dealing with. She even asked him to pull his own police report about a domestic violence charge on his record rather than doing the research herself. When he claimed he couldn't get it she let him explain it away. We were able to obtain the report which spoke of him choking a woman unconscious. She also failed to speak to the girlfriend after me who also experienced domestic violence to the point that she was too afraid to speak in court. If you are a victim of domestic violence DO NOT USE this woman. You will be re-traumatized and be accused of making up allegations. Despite the fact that his father averaged giving away 1 day month out of his 8 she noted that he did not give away a significant amount of time and failed to mention that he has never scheduled/taken my son to one doctor, eye, or dental appointment. My child's father also had a babysitter we knew nothing about and that she never mentioned to me in her "investigation', despite the fact that child care was to be mutually agreed upon. Julia conducted two phone interviews for her "investigation" and took the word of my son's father's witnesses and left out information from my witnesses entirely in her report. My three year old will now be split between households 50/50 even though he has never been with his father that much in his life. She is a disgrace to her profession. DO NOT USE!

I would not recommend Julia, I felt the responsibility of her caring and putting her job duties and priorities into the case was simply absent. I am not sure if here personal issues at home played role of me feeling like she was absent from my case. I would not recommend her based off of her performance, lack of understanding my case and the disregard to evidence. I am very disappointed with the service I received.

Julia is a wonderful person, experienced negotiator, respectful and professional; able to make things right and fair. I was miracle, I didn't believe my husband could move an inch! If I start divorce process from the begging, I would skip lawyers and go directly to her office. She is definitely the one who prevented the trial and saved me and my son substantial amount of money.

Mr. Leonard Higdon is such a humble, thorough and helpful attorney. We have only begun our journey to resolve a contract dispute and I am so grateful that Mr. Higdon showed compassion for my situation. During our initial consulation, Mr. Higdon gave me wonderful guidance and advice. You don't find many people like him. I highly recommend Leonard Higdon should you have legal needs!

Leonard and his team worked with us from the beginning to the end of a very emotional custody issue. The gentleness of all the staff and excellent communication with them kept the process flowing smoothly. Although I hope no one has to go through what we had to, having Leonard and his team on our side to navigate the legal process and deal with the other party involved made the situation a lot easier to handle. We highly recommend Leonard and his firm!

Mr. Leonard was always very competent and made me feel safe about a traffic accident. I'm an immigrant, and I've had a car accident that I've had to go to several times to court, and also I had some problems with insurance. I lost many nights of sleep until I found Mr. Leonard who from the beginning told me not to worry. He solved all the problems and did the best for me. I really recommend him! He will do a great job in your case.

We have worked with Miranda Bouchey and can highly highly recommend her. She genuinely cares about our family and works incredibly hard on our case. She can understand the pain and tension we feel as parents as we deal with an ex and can also understand how our situation impacts our kids. She has made herself available to us; previous lawyers we have worked with were very hard to get a hold of, leaving us feeling abandoned at key times. Miranda is the total opposite. She prioritizes us when we need it, responds quickly to emails and makes herself available for phone consultations. We have felt so supported by her. She is also incredibly smart and competent. She knows the law and how to apply it to our situation. She is on top of every deadline and produces high quality work. She has calmly and expertly walked us through a situation we never wanted to be in. When you are walking down these terrible, messy and murky paths, you want Miranda by your side.

Miranda was amazing! I knew I had an uphill battle going into our case since I wasn’t the primary care taker and my ex wife wanted to relocate with our son. I knew that I also had a lot going for me since I have always been there and have provided for my son since his birth as well. Miranda took my case on short notice and short preparation, but got up to speed quicker than I anticipated. She gave me the best possible legal advice (the to-do’s and not to-do’s) the entire 5-6 months she worked with me. When it came down to actually going to court, she guided and prepared me on exactly what was going to happen before even getting into the courtroom, so all I had to do was remember and execute what she told me to do. She was already in the courthouse before I arrive at the courthouse (which I’m always early) and I really appreciated that. She was attentive in the courtroom and honed in on what was important to the judge’s decision making. She won my case for me because she’s an amazing attorney and knew what to say and what not to say. I will be forever grateful for Miranda and her talent as an attorney! I hope I never have to go through this again, but she will be the first call I make if I ever need to. Thank you Miranda! You’re truly a blessing!

When I found myself in need of an attorney for family court, I was fortunate to have discovered her services. In my humble opinion, she is not only the best choice but also an exceptional advocate for anyone navigating the complexities of family law. Going into family court as a father seeking custody of my child was a daunting experience, especially since I had never set foot in a courtroom or retained an attorney before. Her expertise, patience, and remarkable communication skills played a pivotal role in alleviating my stress and helping me comprehend the intricacies of the APR and custody process. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, my court battle extended over a grueling 1.5 years. Throughout this time, she never once left me in the dark. Thanks to her unwavering support, guidance, and tireless efforts, I ultimately achieved full custody and decision-making rights for my child. Knowing that my child would be out of harm's way and that court orders would ensure their safety was the best possible outcome I could have hoped for. Family court can be an unpredictable and emotionally draining experience, but with Oliva by my side, I always had a sense of security. Her unwavering preparedness and commitment to my case assured me that she would fight tirelessly on my behalf. I cannot emphasize enough how impressed I am with her skill, dedication, and extensive knowledge of family law. She made an immeasurable difference in my life, and I wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone in need of a family court attorney.

I don't have the words to express my gratitude for Olivia Larson and all she has done for my family. My case was extremely complicated as it had both civil and criminal accusations. I knew I was innocent and the accusations against me were an attempt to muddy the water and gain an advantage in the civil case. With Olivia's help, I was able to win against the criminal accusations and hold my accusers accountable. The civil case lasted over a year due to Covid and court procedure. When I first hired Olivia she was with a firm that I won't name, but after a few months she chose to leave that firm and start her own. I asked her to stay on as my lawyer and she thankfully agreed. Olivia is extremely knowledgeable, dedicated to her clients, patient and of the highest character. I recommend her to anyone and I will certainly reach out to her again if I find myself in need of an attorney!

Olivia was very knowledgeable and able to answer all my questions. She was also very helpful in any of the issues that came up within my divorce proceedings. I switched to her because I felt I was not getting anywhere with my other attorney. She delt well with my high conflict spouse and made me feel comfortable and safe when we went to mediation or court. I am grateful for her and her want to be the best attorney she can be.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Greenwood Village, Colorado?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
