It has been several years ago when Ms. Palmer, as part of a larger insurance defense firm, refused to pay my entire invoice for services rendered as a professional consultant in a medical malpractice case. The amount of money left unpaid is not the point but the fact that they unilaterally made a decision without any attempt to negotiate or discuss it with me. Her excuse at the time was that the insurance adjuster refused but I found no evidence that she made any attempt to support my claim. This had not happened to me previously and has not happened since. I would caution all professional consultant in working with her or any firm that she is associated with.

I hired Mr. Brovege after meeting with other lawyers for a workers comp claim. He was compassionate and concerned with my health. He presented a detailed outline of what to expect, timeline and experts I would meet with to resolve my claim and get my health back to normal. I was pleasantly surprised at how efficient and detailed oriented Mr. Brovege was. My claim was settled sooner than I expected. The health professionals Mr. Brovege recommended was superb. I have recommended Mr. Brovege to others with the same results. I have also used his expertise on other matters much to my satisfaction.

We have worked with Miranda Bouchey and can highly highly recommend her. She genuinely cares about our family and works incredibly hard on our case. She can understand the pain and tension we feel as parents as we deal with an ex and can also understand how our situation impacts our kids. She has made herself available to us; previous lawyers we have worked with were very hard to get a hold of, leaving us feeling abandoned at key times. Miranda is the total opposite. She prioritizes us when we need it, responds quickly to emails and makes herself available for phone consultations. We have felt so supported by her. She is also incredibly smart and competent. She knows the law and how to apply it to our situation. She is on top of every deadline and produces high quality work. She has calmly and expertly walked us through a situation we never wanted to be in. When you are walking down these terrible, messy and murky paths, you want Miranda by your side.

Miranda was amazing! I knew I had an uphill battle going into our case since I wasn’t the primary care taker and my ex wife wanted to relocate with our son. I knew that I also had a lot going for me since I have always been there and have provided for my son since his birth as well. Miranda took my case on short notice and short preparation, but got up to speed quicker than I anticipated. She gave me the best possible legal advice (the to-do’s and not to-do’s) the entire 5-6 months she worked with me. When it came down to actually going to court, she guided and prepared me on exactly what was going to happen before even getting into the courtroom, so all I had to do was remember and execute what she told me to do. She was already in the courthouse before I arrive at the courthouse (which I’m always early) and I really appreciated that. She was attentive in the courtroom and honed in on what was important to the judge’s decision making. She won my case for me because she’s an amazing attorney and knew what to say and what not to say. I will be forever grateful for Miranda and her talent as an attorney! I hope I never have to go through this again, but she will be the first call I make if I ever need to. Thank you Miranda! You’re truly a blessing!

Chris was excellent at reviewing the potential questions that may have come up in disposition. He had a lot of foresight about my personal injury case that I would never have thought about without his incredible attention to detail. Most importantly, he listens and thoughtfully responds to questions and concerns. I recommend him as a very diligent lawyer with a high degree of integrity for his clients' interests.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Greenwood Village, Colorado?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
